Noa Argamani, 27, a recently rescued hostage, has made an emotional plea for the release of her boyfriend, Avinatan Or, 30, and 98 others still held in Gaza. “My heart breaks to think Avinatan will continue to be there until the second stage of this deal,” she said, urging for the immediate return of all hostages.

Her comments come as tensions heighten ahead of the planned release of three Israeli captives today, as part of a fragile ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. Under the deal, Hamas is to free the hostages in exchange for 90 Palestinian prisoners and families.

However, the ceasefire, due to begin at 6:30 a.m., is on shaky ground. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that delays or violations could collapse the agreement, reiterating that Israel retains the right to resume military operations if necessary.

Uncertainty and rising tensions

Tensions in the region have surged following an intercepted Houthi missile attack, ongoing Gaza bombings, and a stabbing in Tel Aviv. One man was injured before the attacker was killed by security forces.

Meanwhile, families of the hostages anxiously await news of their loved ones. A source close to the families described the situation as “absolute torture,” with no confirmation yet of who will be freed.

Controversy in London protests

In London, former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn faced criticism for participating in a pro-Gaza march that allegedly breached police lines. Although Corbyn and former shadow chancellor John McDonnell complied with orders, the protest saw 77 arrests, including Stop The War Coalition’s vice-chairman, Chris Nineham.

Government adviser Lord Walney condemned the MPs’ involvement, stating their actions risked inflaming an already volatile situation.

Hostages and prisoners

The initial phase of the ceasefire deal spans 42 days, with the release of 33 Israeli captives in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. High-profile prisoners include Ahmad Barghouti, convicted of supplying weapons for attacks, and Ahmad al-Shibani, implicated in a deadly 2003 bombing.

The deal’s second stage requires the Israel Defense Forces to withdraw from Gaza, contingent on Hamas relinquishing power—a condition that remains highly contentious.

Noa’s viral image from October 2023 symbolized the personal cost of the conflict. Reflecting on her rescue last May, she said, “I know what it’s like to be left behind… We must bring all the hostages home.”
