Yellowstone: Jamie Dutton moves to impeach his father Govern John Dutton

Jamie Dutton shockingly announced he was moving to impeach his own father Governor John Dutton on Sunday night’s midseason finale of Yellowstone on the Paramount Network as part of his plan to take over as Governor of Montana himself.

‘I have called this emergency meeting of the Assembly to address an egregious act of dereliction,’ Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley), as attorney general of the state, said. ‘In canceling funding for the Paradise Valley regional airport and surrounding residential, commercial and mixed communities, Governor Dutton has violated state law and his sworn oath of office to act in the best interests of the state.’

Jamie’s call for impeachment tribunal was swiftly voted on by the legislature after he explained that his father had robbed the state of billions of dollars of revenue and threatened the state with litigation and that those actions will have devastating consequences to our constituents.

At the same time, John (Kevin Costner) was appearing at a press conference alongside Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham), the Native American leader, and US Senator Lynelle Perry (Wendy Moniz-Grillo) to oppose an oil pipeline going through the Ranch and reservation land.

‘Running the pipeline beneath the drinking water of an already strained and impoverished community may be progress for the owners of the pipeline, or owners of whatever runs through the pipeline or for those receiving it but it could lead to disastrous effects to the land and the people this pipeline runs beneath,’ John said.

John said as governor of Montana he would use his full power to prevent the pipeline from happening. Suddenly, the news of Jamie calling for impeachment broke and reporters started scrambling to get John’s reaction. Lynelle advised him to not answer any questions but to leave.

‘This moment isn’t about me and I won’t let it be,’ John said to the reporters. ‘The issues facing this reservation are real. Far more real than any theater being played out in Helena right now.’

John got into his car and left. When Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) learned what Jamie did she was livid and came after him.

Summer Higgins (Piper Perabo) showed Beth the videos of Jamie calling for the impeachment tribunal.

‘That motherf***er,’ Beth said.

Beth drove straight to Jamie’s house. He was in bed with Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri).

‘He’s going to fight,’ Jamie said.

‘I don’t doubt it,’ Sarah said.

Beth started ringing his doorbell.

Bump in the night: Beth started ringing his doorbell. 'Just ignore you, she will go away,' Sarah said. 'You don¿t know my sister,' Jamie said.

Beth used rock to break a window to open his door.

‘Get the f*** out of my house,’ Jamie said, grabbing her.

‘F*** you Jamie,’ Beth said.

Beth smashed him in the head with the rock knocking him to the ground.

‘Tomorrow you will call a press conference and you will resign from office,’ Beth said. ‘Do you f***ing understand me, Jamie? You will resign or I’m printing photos for the sheriff.’

‘No, you are not,’ Jamie said.

‘How many bodies has your father put in the same spot?’ Jamie said. ‘Turn me in and you turn him in. Have you thought this through?’

Jamie laughed when he realized Beth hadn’t put it together.

Doesn't work: 'Tomorrow you will call a press conference and you will resign from office,' Beth said. 'Do you f***ing understand me, Jamie? You will resign or I¿m printing photos for the sheriff.' 'No, you are not,' Jamie said

‘There is a century’s worth of our family secrets down at the bottom of that canyon,’ Jamie said. ‘You want to see how fast they take the ranch from us then?’

‘Bullsh**,’ Beth said.

‘Ask your husband,’ Jamie said. ‘Where the train station is, and how many times he’s been there.’

Jamie said Beth knew that the only way to save the ranch for future generations was through monetization.

Useless: 'There is a century's worth of our family secrets down at the bottom of that canyon,' Jamie said. 'You want to see how fast they take the ranch from us then?'

‘How’s the cattle ranch treating you, Beth?’ Jamie. ‘You see any long term plays there? You know all of this!’

Jamie said what he was doing was guaranteeing the ranch was passed down to Tate, to his son and to their children some day.

‘The greatest threat to that ranch is our father and you know that too,’ Jamie said. ‘So I will remove the threat.’

Sarah came down wrapped in a sheet.

‘Bet you’re one expensive hooker,’ Beth said. ‘Enjoying your marionette?’

‘Every inch of him,’ Sarah said.

‘So it’s war,’ Beth said.

‘War’s over, Beth,’ Jamie said.

‘No, Jamie, war is just beginning,’ Beth said.

Beth drove back to the ranch. John was sitting with Lynelle, Clara Brewer (Lilli Kay) watching a news report that said it was believed the protected wolves’ pack had been killed on the Governor’s ranch.

Questions: Beth drove back to the ranch. She asked her father what the 'train station' was

‘They never reached out for comment,’ Clara said.

‘It’s a hit piece, Clara,’ Lynelle said. ‘They smell blood in the water.’

Beth walked in demanding to know exactly what the ‘train station’ was.

‘It’s a trash can for everyone who’s attacked us,’ John said. ‘It lies in a jurisdictional dead zone in a county with a population of exactly zero… Why are you so surprised? Where did you think the men who attacked you in your office and attacked our ranch went?’

John said they needed a way to defend themselves.

‘Jamie knows about it,’ Beth said.

John said he already knew that.

‘He will use everything he knows to destroy you,’ Beth said.

Beth took a seat next to him.

‘If there is a place our enemies go and no one ever knows they went, and they will never come back then I think that’s the place for Jamie,’ Beth said. ‘What do you think daddy?’

Going on offense: Sarah told Jamie there were professional companies and could kill someone and make it look like a heart attack or a car accident

Back at Jamie’s house, Sarah helped Jamie dress his wound.

‘What do you think she will do next?’ Sarah asked.

‘I think she will try to have me killed,’ Jamie said.

Sarah told him to assign himself security.

‘That’s playing defense,’ Jamie said. ‘What if I want to play offense?’

Sarah told him there were professional companies and would make it look like a heart attack or a car accident.

‘Perhaps I could meet with them, and see how they would handle this,’ Jamie said.

Sarah said it would be better if she met with them for him.

The episode titled A Knife and No Coin opened with a flashback of John helping Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) cover up the fact that he killed a ranch hand on his property when he was younger. John demanded what the man said about his daughter Beth that made him so angry that he killed him and why it bothered him.

‘Is something going on between you and my daughter?’ John asked.

Rip didn’t answer. John said in the future the only time he will fight would be to protect somebody on the ranch or the ranch itself. Later over a fire, John explained to Rip that he was committing himself to the ranch for the rest of his life. He put an iron brand with the letter ‘Y’ in the fire.

When he got back to the lodge, he showed the other ranch hands that a ‘Y’ had been branded on his chest.

John earlier in the show told Monica Long (Kelsey Asbille) that there was a house for her and Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) on the ranch.

John said he needed everyone’s help.

‘We can help,’ Monica said. ‘That’s all you ever had to do, you know, just ask.’

‘Well, now I know,’ John said.

Kayce rode up and John got emotional and hugged him.

‘You’re stronger than I was, I guess that’s how it’s supposed to be,’John said. ‘I love you son.’
