Washington Commanders rookie RB Brian Robinson in stable condition after being shot multiple times

Washington Commanders RB Brian Robinson, 23, hospitalized after being shot multiple times in attempted robbery – but his injuries are NOT life threatening and his coach says ‘he will be back soon doing what he does best’

  • Brian Robinson is in good spirits in hospital after ebbing shot in a robbery
  • Robinson was visited by Commanders coach Ron Rivera on Sunday night
  • Rivera said the 23-year-old will ‘be back soon doing what he does best’
  • Robinson had just been drafted in the 3rd round of the 2022 draft out of Alabama

Washington Commanders rookie running back Brian Robinson is in a stable condition and in ‘good spirits’ in hospital after being shot multiple times in an attempted robbery on Sunday.

In a statement, a DC Metro Police spokesman said the shooting occurred just before 6:00pm local time along the H Street Corridor near Ben’s Chili Bowl in the northeast part of the city.

The spokesman added they are looking for two juveniles in relation to the shooting.

Commanders head coach Ron Rivera tweeted around 10:00pm local time Sunday that he had visited Robinson in the hospital.

‘He is in good spirits and wanted me to thank everyone for their kind words, prayers, & support,’ Rivera said.

‘He wants his teammates to know he appreciates them all for reaching out and he loves them all & will be back soon doing what he does best.’

It’s the end of the last sentence from Rivera that seems to suggest Robinson’s injuries are not career-threatening, let alone life-threatening.

This incident occurred just as rumors began to circulate that Robinson could be named the starting running back for the newly named Commanders over veteran Antonio Gibson.

Commanders head coach Rivera had been pleased with the progress Robinson had been making and the impact he’s had on the team in the preseason.

‘I think he’s a big, strong, powerful, downhill runner, more so than anything else,’ Rivera said of Robinson in preseason.

‘He does have a little bit of shake to him, but I think if you look at it, Antonio (Gibson) is a little more of an elusive guy, more off the edge where with Brian, we can take it inside or we can take it off the edge just overall.’

Robinson was selected in the third round of this year’s NFL draft out of the University of Alabama.

Last season with the Crimson Tide, Robinson grabbed career highs in carries (271), rushing yards (1,343), and rushing touchdowns (14).

Additionally, he set career receiving records with the most catches (35), receiving yards (296) and receiving touchdowns (2).

He’s a player that Alabama coach Nick Saban is going to miss in Tuscaloosa.

Robinson had an electric performance in last year’s Cotton Bowl, grabbing 204 rushing yards and averaging 7.8 yards per carry.

‘Well, we love it when B-Rob gets rolling,’ Saban said during his postgame interview.

‘He did a fantastic job, the offensive line did a really good job in the run game. So I’m really proud of B-Rob. He’s a fine young man.

‘And to come back to play this year, he’s really created a lot of value for himself.’
