Uma Thurman and ex-husband Ethan Hawke walk SAME red carpet as they both attend special 40th anniversary screening of Sophie’s Choice – 20 years after split

Former Hollywood power couple Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke were spotted at the same red carpet event in New York City — 20 years after their shock split.

On Tuesday, they attended the 40th anniversary screening of Sophie’s Choice at the Museum of Modern Art with the film’s stars Meryl Streep, Kevin Kline and Peter MacNicol.

The exes seemingly avoided one another, with Thurman taking on the cameras solo and Hawke joining forces with Cate Blanchett.

For Tuesday night, Thurman looked chic in a black coat over a white button-up blouse.

She threw on some black semi-sheer tights and heels to complete the outfit.

The Pulp Fiction star carried a stylish black bucket bag.

Meanwhile, Hawke bundled up in a navy blue coat over gray linen pants and a red plaid.

Once inside the venue, the Before Sunrise star ditched his coat and unveiled a linen blazer that matched his pants.

He posed for photos with close friend Cate Blanchett, who dressed up for the event in a denim suit.

Hawke also mingled with Showgirls star Gina Gershon.

Meanwhile, Thurman chatted with Stranger Things star Matthew Modine and socialite Nancy Jarecki.

The screening on Tuesday was presented by the French luxury brand LANVIN.

Alan J. Pakula’s psychological drama centered on naïve writer Stingo (MacNicol) befriending Polish immigrant Zofia ‘Sophie’ Zawistowska (Streep) and her emotionally-unstable lover Nathan Landau (Kline) in 1947.

Meanwhile, Streep mastered a flawless Polish accent for her jaw-dropping portrayal of an Auschwitz prisoner forced to choose which of her two children would be sent to the gas chamber, which she nailed in one take.

Streep wound up winning the second of her three Academy Awards for her stunning performance in the big-screen adaptation of William Styron’s 1979 novel.

Thurman and Hawke tied the knot in 1998 after meeting on set of the sci-fi film Gattaca in 1996.

It marked Thurman’s second trip down the aisle as she was previously married to Academy Award-winner Gary Oldman from 1990 to 1992.

Thurman and Hawke welcomed two children: Maya, 25, and Levon, 22.

They split in 2003 amid rumors that Hawke had cheated on the Kill Bill star with their children’s nanny Ryan Shawhughes.

The Training Day actor denied the affair but he did begin publicly dating Shawhughes after he and Thurman finalized their divorce in 2005.

Hawke married Shawhughes in 2008 and they are the parents of two daughters: Clementine, 15, and Indiana, 12.

In her first post-divorce interview with Oprah Winfrey in October 2005, Thurman admitted that the split left her self-esteem ‘pretty mangled.’

She described the entire ordeal as ‘excruciating’ and admitted that even two years after their separation it was ‘very difficult’ communicating with Hawke.

She did not substantiate the affair rumors but she did suggest that there was ‘some betrayal’ between them.

In a 2018 interview, Hawke recalled how his ‘personal life fell apart’ after he was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in Training Day (2001)

He told GQ that what he considered to be the ‘best moment of my career’ became a nightmare as he struggled to navigate his career amid bad press.

He previously told IndieWire that it was acting that helped him through that difficult time.

‘I just decided that no amount of bad press will turn me into a bad actor if I don’t let it,’ Hawke said.
