UConn’s football team got its season off to a losing start on Thursday, but one play in particularly was embarrassing for the Huskies.

With the team down 10-7 to North Carolina State in the third quarter, quarterback Joe Fagnano took the ball out of the shotgun formation and quickly lateralled the ball to wide receiver James Burns.

However, running back Brian Brewton apparently wasn’t on the same page, as he moved towards Burns with the two colliding.

The collision forced Burns to lose hold of the ball, and it initially looked like NC State had recovered a fumble.

However, the Huskies were fortunate that the play was deemed an incomplete pass by referees.

UConn ultimately lost 24-14 to its visitors, with Fagnano reaching just 113 passing yards on 26 attempts.

‘I mean 14 points just, it’s not gonna win games,’ he said after the game, via the Hartford Courant. ‘And that starts on offense with me. We’ve got to score more points, it’s that simple.

‘The defense played their tails off today, a lot of big stops, fourth down stops. We had some shots to take on offense and we just gotta connect.’

The Huskies will hope to get back on track this weekend vs. Georgia State.
