Tom Parker’s widow Kelsey admits she felt ‘lonely’ and ‘sad’ over Christmas

Kelsey Parker has candidly spoken about how ‘tough’ she found her first Christmas without her late husband Tom.

The mother-of-two, 32, opened up about how she felt ‘lonely’ over the festive period after The Wanted star’s death in March at the age of 33 after a year-and-a-half long battle with stage four glioblastoma brain cancer.

She took to her Instagram Stories on Thursday to share a video where she reflected on her first Christmas without Tom, saying her emotions ‘came in waves’.

She explained: ‘I survived Christmas. Don’t get me wrong, it was harder than I ever anticipated it would be. Christmas was so tough for me.

‘The emotions just came in waves, one minute I was happy, one minute I was sad, one minute I was angry, but I’m here and I’ve survived it. We’re in January and it’s a New Year.

‘Do you know what, I was talking to my friend earlier and I said, the only way to describe the waves and feelings you get, like I had it this morning, when I think about Tom I get this wave, and it’s almost like you lose a set of keys.

‘You have that first feeling when you lose a set of keys of ‘where’s my keys?’. It’s almost like that and you think ‘where is he?’, then I have to reassure myself and be like ‘he’s not coming back’.’

Kelsey – who shared kids Aurelia, three, and Bodhi, two, with Tom – went on to speak about how her eldest child is ‘her father’s daughter’.

She continued: ‘Aurelia had me up four/five times last night. It’s like I’m back to having a newborn. She’s not gone back to nursery yet, she goes back next week, well to preschool.

‘With her, she just needs to be on the go and doing stuff and with her activities not back, she really is her father’s daughter and I don’t think she’s stimulated enough and at night she’s like ‘hey mum, let’s have a party’.’

Kelsey then thanked her 394,000 followers for helping her get through the Christmas period, saying she ‘wouldn’t’ have been able to do it without their support.

She added: ‘I just wanted to say as well that I wouldn’t be able to get through any of this if it wasn’t for you guys.

‘Your DMs, your messages, everything, I can’t get back to all of you, but you’ve honestly been the biggest support to get me through this period.

‘I didn’t realise how hard the Christmas period was going to be and how lonely and sad it is. But thankfully I’ve got a village, I’ve got a team, I’ve got my family and my friends, who are amazing.’

Expressing her mixed emotions about leaving 2022 behind, Kelsey penned: ‘It’s hard to move forward without looking back.’

While she looked forward to the New Year, Kelsey said it was hard to not reflect back on her loss and the heartbreaking grief that came with it.

However, she said she’s staying positive with the help of her and Tom’s two children, remarking that they are learning to grow around their grief, with Kelsey adding a diagram to demonstrate the feeling.

She penned: ‘Hello 2023. I wonder what you’ll have in store for us. To be honest I’m not really sure how I’m feeling about the new year.

‘I want to be hopeful, to look forward to but it’s hard to move forward without looking back.

‘I do know that whatever it brings, with Rae and Bo by my side the year will be full of smiles, fun and positivity. We’ll carry on as we were in 2022, living with our grief and growing around it.

‘I’m looking forward to sharing it all with you and however you’ve left 2022 I wish you love and happiness for 2023.’
