The View’s Alyssa Farah Griffin has seemingly defended Justin Timberlake in the wake of Britney Spears’ allegation that she had an abortion during their relationship because he ‘wasn’t ready’ to be a father.
The pop superstar, 41, opened up about the agonizing decision for the first time in her tell-all memoir, The Woman In Me, recalling how she was left ‘crying and sobbing’ after choosing to undergo the medical procedure in secret at home, when she was just 19.
Alyssa, 34, described it as a ‘gut punch’ on the latest episode of The View: Behind the Table podcast – but said she ‘feels strongly that both parents [should] have a say in what happens with the child’.
The former White House aide told The View’s executive producer Brian Teta that she thinks Britney and Justin ‘went through hell in different ways’ and admitted she was going to ‘try and give them both a little grace’ in regards to the situation.

Britney has claimed that NSYNC singer Justin ‘wasn’t happy’ when she fell pregnant in 2000
When Brian referred to Britney’s revelation as a ‘cutting room floor Hot Topic’, Alyssa explained: ‘We wanted to talk about this but it is dicey on a number of levels.’
In reference to the singer’s termination, she continued: ‘That one was a gut punch when I read it, but think of the pressure that these two young icons at that time were under. They had to live this myth and pretend, while playing very sexified people in their public lives.
‘They had to pretend they were virgins, which as an adult now I’m like, “of course they weren’t”.
‘I think it exposes like a human side of a story that, in retrospect, that totally makes sense that they went through all of those struggles. The challenge that it presents is a tough topic to talk about in the context of reproductive health. I do feel strongly that both people, both parents, have a say in what happens with the child.’
Alyssa added: ‘It was heartbreaking to hear her kind of say she might have done something different if not for what he wanted. But I do hope for her, talking about it was helpful and now you see how important having kids was to her. She’s got her kids, she had talked about wanting to have more. I could dissect how Britney was treated for hours.’
She finished: ‘The pressures of being hypersexualized with then having to pretend you’re a virgin… like they both, in different ways, went through hell and I’m gonna try to give them both a little grace in it.’
Justin has yet to publicly address Britney’s claims. An insider exclusively revealed to DailyMail.com last week that he plans to avoid speaking out about her bombshell memoir over fears that his past statements will ‘come back to haunt him’.
Alyssa said she hopes that writing the tell-all memoir has been ‘therapeutic’ for Britney
Britney and Justin were in a very high-profile relationship from 1999 until 2002
The blonde star stressed on social media that she has ‘moved on’ from what happened with her ex-boyfriend, who is now married to Jessica Biel
It is believed Justin, who famously dated the Baby One More Time hitmaker from 1999 until 2002, had hoped that their decision to terminate the pregnancy would have remained a ‘secret forever’.
But despite any frustrations he may have, he will apparently refrain from speaking out so as to not ‘get in the way’ of Britney’s chance to finally share her story, including her claims that Justin cheated on her with ‘another celebrity’.
‘Justin thought that the decision that they made was a decision made together and he intended to never talk about it and for it to be kept their secret forever,’ an insider said.
‘Now that Britney has mentioned it, and it will live forever in her book and whatever else she decides to mention, Justin is going to try not to say anything about it because he knows whatever he says from this point will likely be thrown back right at him.’
Meanwhile, in a social media statement posted last Friday, Britney expressed her dismay at the way her book is being perceived.
‘My book’s purpose was not to offend anyone by any means !!! That was me then … that is in the past !!!’ she exclaimed. ‘I don’t like the headlines I am reading… that’s exactly why I quit the business 4 years ago !!!’
Britney maintained: ‘Most of the book is from 20 years ago … I have moved on and it’s a beautiful clean slate from here !!! I am here to establish it that way for the rest of my entire life !!! Either way this is the last of it and s*** happens !!!’
The Oops!…I Did It Again hitmaker reflected: ‘This is actually a book I didn’t know needed to be written … although some might be offended, it has given me closure on all things for a better future !!! Hopefully I can enlighten people who feel particularly alone in most cases or hurt and misunderstood !!!’
She doubled down: ‘Again, my motive for this book was not to harp on my past experiences which is what the press is doing and it’s dumb and silly !!! I have moved on since then !!! #TheWomanInMe’.
