Radio presenter Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes has revealed the little-known road rule that can land drivers a whopping fine.

He explained on 2Day FM’s The Morning Crew with Hughesy, Ed and Erin on Tuesday how his taxi driver was recently fined for going through an orange light.

‘[My driver] was handed a fine in the mail that said “failed to stop at an orange light”, so he was fined for not stopping at the light,’ the comedian, 51, told his co-hosts Ed Kavalee and Erin Molan.

‘I had no idea you could get fined for going through an orange light. I thought the light had to be red before you got fined,’ he added.

Erin noted that for many drivers an orange light is ‘an indictor to speed up a bit’ to clear the intersection – but it turns out this is actually against the law.

She then recalled how she narrowly avoided a fine three weeks ago when she was stopped by a plainclothes police officer for going through an orange light.

Erin also pointed out that it can be dangerous to stop abruptly for an orange light because the driver behind could ‘bump into you’.

It comes after Dave recently revealed his wife-of-20-years Holly Ife had previously threatened to stop having sex with him if he lost any more teeth.

‘I’ve lost a number of teeth in [my] 20 years [of marriage],’ the funnyman said on his 2Day FM breakfast show last month.

‘I haven’t lost a tooth in three or four years, which is exceptional because they were falling out left, right and centre at one point. Like, dropping like flies,’ he added.

Hughes, who is now almost missing one-third of his 32 teeth, said Holly eventually took a stand.

‘My wife did say at one point, “If you lose any more teeth it’s all over. No more intimate times for you” – which I thought was disappointing… but anyway, I’m not going to go down that track.’

Erin then revealed she had previously dated a rugby player whose false teeth once fell out while they were kissing.

Despite the faux pas, Erin said she continued dating the sportsman for four years after the incident.
