The Holiday fans share terrifying theory about Jude Law’s character in the Christmas favourite

Fans have come up with a terrifying theory about one of Britain’s most beloved Christmas films.

Chilling may not be the first word that springs to mind when you think of The Holiday or Jude Law’s character Graham – but the alternative storyline fans have mustered up may keep you up at night.

The Holiday is a quintessential festive rom-com, which sees chronically unlucky in love Amanda (Cameron Diaz) plan a house swap in cute country cottage in the UK.

The picturesque home is owned by another woman who is also doomed in the love department – Iris (Kate Winslet) – who just so happens to be the brother of Graham.

While Iris makes herself at home in Amanda’s plush Los Angeles home, on the other side of the Atlantic Amanda feels she has made a huge mistake and wants to go back home the day after her arrival.

Fans have mustered up one chilling conspiracy theory about Graham (played by Jude Law, pictured) in The Holiday

Later that evening, Iris’s brother, Graham, arrives at the cottage, intoxicated and looking for a place to stay.

After the pair become romantically entangled, Amanda decides to stay for a while in the quaint little village.

In a romantic sequence of events, Graham becomes besotted with Amanda, and she turns her back on her flight back to America – opting to spend New Years with Graham and his daughters.

Although many use the feel good rom-com to help themselves feel better about the bleak and chilly winter months, others have a different outlook on the film.

One Reddit user shared their own bizarre and mind-boggling theory about the upbeat rom-com, which presents Graham in a murderous light.

They shared their conspiracy theory to the social media platform, stating that they believe Graham actually killed his first wife so that he could inherit her home.

They continued to explain that this is why they believe his sister, Iris, is taking part in the house swap – to investigate if Amanda has enough money to be ‘worth the effort of seducing’.

The user also added that the pair are trying to decipher how little family and romantic ties she has to asses how easy it would be to ‘dispose’ of her.

But some fans are convinced there is more too the film than meets the eye as one Reddit user believes Graham murdered his ex-wife so that he could inherit her home

They explain: ‘Kate (Iris) is so overjoyed to see how grand and luxurious Cameron’s house is because she knows she and Jude have hit the jackpot.

‘Meanwhile, Jude (Graham) carefully sets up an “accidental” meeting and manipulates Cameron (Amanda) to develop a relationship and get his claws into her. Everything that follows is orchestrated to carry out their plot.’

Others where not all the way convinced by the conspiracy, with one person writing: ‘More detail and evidence to support this would be great. I like it.’

‘Sounds a lot like Crimson Peak,’ to which someone replied: ‘But with more scarves and tastefully appointed kitchens.’

Last year Kate Winslet shut down claims a sequel to smash hit 2006 film, The Holiday, is in the works – after it was claimed the original cast were reuniting for a new movie.

Fans went into a frenzy after it was reported stars Cameron, 50, Jude, 49, Kate, 47, and Jack Black, 53, were all on board for the sequel.

But Kate, who played journalist Iris in the rom-com, told People: ‘I read something about that, but it’s the first I’ve heard of it.

‘I promise you not an agent or a representative or anyone from the first one around has had any conversation with me about that. Hand on heart, that’s never come up.’

Writer and director Nancy Meyers also took to Instagram to debunk rumours of a sequel, writing: So many DM’s about this – sorry but it’s not true.’
