Sunrise host Natalie Barr has warned Michael Clarke risks losing sponsorship deals if those brands decide his late-night Noosa scuffle violates any ‘morality clause’ in his contract.
A ‘morality clause’ refers to a provision in a contract that holds an individual to a certain standard of behaviour, publicly and privately, so as to preserve the good reputation of all parties.
They are often featured in contracts for athletes, actors and media personalities.
Barr explained these clauses are par for the course in the entertainment world, and the video of Clarke’s wild argument with his girlfriend Jade Yarbrough – which the cricketer himself described as ‘shameful’ – could possibly ‘bring a brand into disrepute’.

The former Australian Test captain, 41, was caught on camera having a foul-mouthed argument with Yarbrough, 30, on holiday in Noosa on January 10, forcing his good mate Karl Stefanovic and others to intervene.
During the blazing row, Yarbrough slapped Clarke in the face and accused him of cheating on her with his ex Pip Edwards, and claimed to have seen texts proving it.
Speaking to veteran entertainment reporter Peter Ford on Friday, Barr noted that since retiring from professional sport, Clarke essentially ‘promotes products for a living’, and his latest scandal could potentially affect his deals.
Ford said he doubted anyone would ‘immediately drop him’ given his actions in the video aren’t as bad as some celebrity scandals, and most people would understand it was ‘a personal issue’.
‘I don’t know,’ replied Barr. ‘They have that clause in all our contacts, if you bring a brand into disrepute. And that’s a bit rubbery.’
Her co-host Matt Shirvington suggested Clarke could avoid consequences, however, because most of his sponsorships seem to be short-term ‘influencer deals’.
These tend to be ‘simpler’ and ‘campaign-driven’, he said, as opposed to the longer-term deals signed by TV personalities, which often have stricter clauses.
Peter Ford (pictured) also addressed the debate in the press and on social media as to whether the leaked footage of the lovers’ tiff depicted domestic violence
Ford also addressed the debate in the press and on social media as to whether the leaked footage of the lovers’ tiff depicted domestic violence.
He said: ‘Yesterday, on my social media, I was stunned by the number of people who said no matter what was leading up to it, there was a clear act of physical violence where Jade did smack Michael.
‘Now, it’s got to work both ways, and the issue of domestic violence is a very hot-topic issue at the moment in Queensland.’
Ford, who admitted ‘I’m not a legal expert’, said there was a possibility the incident could end up with domestic violence or public nuisance charges being laid.
However, he did acknowledge there was no complainant, which makes it ‘more difficult’ to secure a conviction, and noted that Clarke had goaded Yarbrough several times in the video to ‘hit me’.
Queensland Police announced overnight they were investigating the fracas, which took place on January 10 in a public park in Noosa. No charges have been laid.
‘Queensland Police are investigating an incident between a 30-year-old woman and 41-year-old man depicted in footage at Lions Park on Gympie Terrace in Noosaville earlier this month,’ a police spokesperson said.
‘As this matter on January 10, 2023, is under investigation the Queensland Police Service is unable to provide any further comment.’

It follows reports a mortified Yarbrough is bunkering down with her sister Jasmine Stefanovic after her furious argument with Clarke made headlines.
The interior designer is staying at Jasmine’s house where she has spent the last two days on the phone to a ‘desperate’ Clarke, who is begging her to take him back after he allegedly cheated on her last month with his ex Pip Edwards.
Yarbrough has not been seen since footage of the ugly stoush was leaked to the press on Wednesday, but friends say she is ‘distraught and embarrassed’ by the video.

Clarke is said to have spent ‘Wednesday and Thursday on the phone to’ Yarbrough pleading for forgiveness, reports The Daily Telegraph.
On his end, the former sportsman risks losing sponsorships in the wake of the melee, with The Sydney Morning Herald reporting the incident has already cost him a deal with a skincare brand.
A handful of other contracts are also said to be ‘hanging in the balance’, including his commentary role for Australia’s Test tour of India.
However, he will keep his radio job at Sky Sports Breakfast, station owners TabCorp confirmed to AAP on Thursday. He is expected to address the stoush when he returns to the airwaves on Monday.
Extraordinary footage emerged on Wednesday of the pair’s heated exchange while they were on holiday in Noosa, with Yarbrough accusing Clarke of sleeping with Edwards behind her back on December 17.
Clarke and Edwards had dated on and off from June 2020 until December 2021. The former Australian cricket captain began dating Yarbrough last year.
Yarbrough has not been seen since footage (above) of the ugly stoush was leaked to the press on Wednesday, but friends say she is ‘distraught and embarrassed’ by the video
The video, filmed by an onlooker and obtained by The Daily Telegraph for a reported $10,000, showed others in the group, including Today host Karl Stefanovic, his wife Jasmine – Jade’s older sister – and celebrity accountant Anthony Bell, trying to defuse the fracas.
Yarbrough accuses Clarke of sleeping with Edwards on December 17 and messaging her to say she is the ‘love of his life’.
The video begins with Yarbrough screaming at Clarke before she slaps him in the face and pushes him away after the cricketer insists he didn’t cheated on her.
‘I’m wrong? I’m f**king wrong! You’re a f**king liar. I can see everything. You called her,’ she screams, apparently referring to messages between Clarke and Edwards.
Clarke then tries to reassure Yarbrough he didn’t seep with Edwards on December 17, saying he was with Bell that night.
‘Baby, you’re wrong, you’re wrong,’ Clarke insists. ‘Baby, baby, Belly was at the house. I swear on my life, I swear on my life… That’s not true, it’s not true.’
He then swears on his daughter Kelsey Lee’s life he did not cheat on her, but Yarbrough refuses to believe his protests and claims she spoke to Edwards.

‘You’re f**king lying to me. You are a piece of s**t. I just spoke to her. What is wrong with you?’ she says.
Clarke again denies sleeping with Edwards and replies: ‘No I didn’t. You can hit me. That’s not true, that’s not true.’
He appeared to have injured his hamstring in the melee after he was pushed to the ground by Yarbrough, as he was seen hobbling across the public park.
Stefanovic’s wife Jasmine eventually steps in and grabs her distressed sister by the arm and drags her away.
Jasmine can be heard saying: ‘Get away with Karl, get away with Karl.’
As she is led away, Jade can be heard crying as she turns to Clarke and howls: ‘I f**king hate you.’

Karl and his wife Jasmine were forced to intervene during the ugly altercation between Clarke and his girlfriend
Clarke then tries to follow Jade before he unleashes a wave of fury at Stefanovic, seemingly because he is walking away with the two sisters.
‘Karlos, I can tell you now c**t, don’t you f**king walk away. She can, she can punch me, but you, you c**t,’ Clarke says.
This comment sparks fury from Jade, who defends her brother-in-law before slapping Clarke repeatedly in the face.
‘You piece of s**t, don’t you f**king speak to him,’ she yells.
Stefanovic and Bell can be heard telling the couple to stop, which falls on deaf ears.
‘Go, hit me hit me… do it again, you’re wrong, you’re f**king wrong,’ Clarke tells his girlfriend.
Clarke has taken responsibility for the drama, saying he is ‘absolutely gutted’
Yarbrough screams: ‘Oh am I wrong? You f**ked her on December 17, you f**ked her… you’re a f**king dog… I’m going to show her every f**king message you ever f**king sent me.’
She makes reference to a text she allegedly saw on Clarke’s phone inviting Edwards to come to India with him.
‘Oh yeah, “You’re the love of my life Pip, come to India,”‘ Yarbrough says, to which Clark replies: ‘Don’t ever talk to me again.’
The two-minute clip ends with Jasmine and Bell separating the feuding couple.
‘Stop, Jade, stop,’ Jasmine pleads. Bell adds: ‘Let it go, Jade.’
The ugly altercation unfolded in front of young children nearby, according to stunned witnesses.
Edwards (left) was having none of the drama when she returned to her eastern suburbs home late Wednesday evening. ‘This is not my circus. Yet again, Michael in his true nature has not taken responsibility for his actions and I was blatantly lied to,’ she told Daily Mail Australia
A remorseful Clarke has since taken full responsibility for what happened.
‘I’m absolutely gutted I’ve put people I hold in the highest regard in this position. My actions in the lead-up to this altercation were nothing short of shameful and regrettable,’ he told The Daily Telegraph on Wednesday.
‘I am shattered that because of my actions I’ve drawn women of class and integrity, and my mates, into this situation.’
Daily Mail Australia has contacted all other parties involved for comment.
Meanwhile, Edwards was having none of the drama when she returned to her eastern suburbs home late Wednesday evening after attending Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road concert at Allianz Stadium in Moore Park.
‘This is not my circus. Yet again, Michael in his true nature has not taken responsibility for his actions and I was blatantly lied to,’ she said in a statement to Daily Mail Australia.

It has since been revealed Clarke hopes to win Yarbrough back.
A friend of the retired cricketer said a ‘shattered’ Clarke is already talking about reconciling with his partner, despite all but admitting he cheated on her.
He is said to be plotting a ‘grand gesture’ to show how much he loves her.
‘He stuffed up and he knows he stuffed up and he got busted, it is as simple as that,’ the source told Daily Mail Australia.
‘But he wants Jade back. She’s the one. But he knows it’s going to take something big to make it happen.’
His friend added that Clarke is ‘in an emotionally dark place’ and is in close contact with his ‘best friend’ Bell who was also involved in the Noosa melee.
‘He’s a mess… a complete mess,’ they said.
