- Sovereign citizen clashed with police officer
- Driver dubbed himself a ‘living man’ in bizarre rant
Footage has captured the moment a sovereign citizen refused to take a breath test after being pulled over by police with the officer drawing praise for his composure.
The driver had been travelling down a road in regional Victoria when he was stopped by police.
An officer then walks up to his driver’s window before he is dragged into a heated argument with the driver who records the incident.
The driver is seen refusing to hand over his personal details, claiming he doesn’t understand the officer’s authority, and dubbing himself a ‘living man’.
Shocking footage has captured the moment a sovereign citizen refused to take a breath test after being pulled over by police
A highway patrol officer can be seen in the video holding a breathalyser as he stands by the driver’s window.
‘What crime is there? What crime has been committed?’ the driver asked.
The police officer calmly explains to the man why he has been pulled over.
‘There has been a traffic offence committed, all right?’ he said.
‘And you are required in Victoria when you’ve committed a traffic offence to give me your name and address and produce your license.’
The driver hits back with a bizarre statement leaving the police officer unimpressed.
‘What crime is there? … For there to be a crime, there must be a victim,’ he said.
The police officer calmly explains to the man he has been pulled over for an offence and not a crime.
‘It’s an offence, and it’s an offence in Victoria, and you are in Victoria. Would you agree with that?’ he said.
The stubborn driver responds he doesn’t understand the question prompting the police officer to continue.
‘Oh, don’t you? Well, I’m telling you that you’re in Victoria. If you don’t know where you are, I guess that’s an issue too,’ he said.
‘You are driving a motor vehicle in Victoria … You can call it whatever you like, but I’m telling you. You are driving a motor vehicle in Victoria.
‘As such, you must comply with all the rules and legislation of Victoria. Do you understand now?’
The second officer then opens the driver’s door and reaches for the keys in the ignition
A second officer joins the conversation saying the driver is obligated to comply with the Road Safety Act.
The driver hits back with a bizarre comeback.
‘So it’s an act, not a law?’ he said.
He labels his car his private property after he is asked by the second officer if he owns the motor vehicle.
‘Well, you’re using it on a Victorian highway, so you have to comply with Victorian obligations,’ the second officer said.
‘Are you going to comply with those obligations, or are you going to be placed under arrest? You choose.’
He then opens the driver’s door and reaches for the keys in the ignition.
‘You’re under arrest for failing to state your name and address,’ he said.
The driver insists he has not refused to take the breath test before handing them his ‘corporation’ licence prompting officers to return his car keys.
He is then told by the first officer that he is required to undergo a preliminary breath test prompting to say he doesn’t comply with the request.
The officer explains failure to comply will be taken as a refusal.
The officers drive away following the altercation before the driver shouts at them.
‘The corrupt politicians!’
Footage of the altercation was uploaded to Twitter where social media users praised the police officer for his calmness.
‘The police were a lot more patient than I would have been,’ one wrote.
