Shops flooded as burst pipe leaves Wood Green High Street submerged in water

Dank holiday! Shops flooded as burst pipe leaves Wood Green High Street submerged in water and fire crews called in to pump road dry

  • Wood Green High Street was completely submerged in the filthy water
  • Shops and pavements looked sure to be damaged by the massive spill
  • The gushing flood is though to have been caused by Thames Water faulty main

A burst water main submerged a London street this morning, causing chaos for shoppers and road users.

Wood Green High Street looked more like a wet brown low river this morning after the plumbing malfunction.

The water main erupted with the filthy liquid which gushed out onto the road before seeping into nearby shops.

London Fire Brigade officers rushed to the scene to try and help with their pumps to remove the fluids.

Nearby stores on the street included ones called Primbay and Savers.

The supply is understood to be run by Thames Water.

There were claims this morning that the problem may have originally started two days ago but got steadily worse.

Twitter user Nick Eftychiou said: ‘Wood Green N22 today. The leak started Sat and wasn’t fixed now it’s flooded everywhere.

MailOnline contacted London Fire Brigade about their role at the scene but has received no response.

The water running free also appears to have hit families in nearby homes.

Responding to one N22 postcode customer online Thames Water said: ‘Thanks, I’ve taken a look into this and can see that we’re aware of a burst pipe in the area affecting your supply at the moment.

‘We’ll work to get this resolved as soon as we can, sorry for the disruption.’

A spokesman for Thames Water told MailOnline: ‘We’re really sorry to customers and businesses in the N22 Wood Green area who have lower pressure than normal today due to a burst pipe.

‘Our priority is supporting those people whose businesses on High Road have been flooded.

‘Our insurance team are calling door-to-door to assess the damage and each company’s needs and we’ll do everything we can to get things back to normal as soon as we can.

‘We have a team onsite shutting off the flow of water from the broken pipe and will have a road closure in place so they can work safely, carry out the repair and the excess water can drain away’.
