Said Benrahma’s move to Lyon has collapsed after West Ham failed to fill in the Transfer Matching System form correctly before the deadline.
The 28-year-old forward had been set to join the Ligue 1 side after travelling to France to undergo his medical at the club.
Lyon had agreed a loan fee and an option to buy worth £17million – with Pierre Sage hoping the West Ham attacker would help the club climb out of the relegation zone.
However, the deal collapsed after West Ham failed to fill in the Transfer Matching System form correctly on Thursday evening, ahead of the 11pm deadline.
When there is an international transfer, the buying and selling clubs have to register it on FIFA’s Transfer Matching System in order for international clearance to be generated.

The buying club have to upload all the information to the system (Lyon in this instance) and the selling club (West Ham under these circumstances) have to match all the details.
Once both clubs have filled out the paperwork, they send the relevant documentation to FIFA – who check it and then send it on to the national association of the buying club.
Following that, they will then request the player’s registration from the association of the selling club and once this was done, FIFA would be notified and issue the International Transfer Certificate.
However, the above process broke down when the Hammers failed to fill in the Transfer Matching System form correctly before the deadline. As a result, Benrahma’s move collapsed.
Lyon are going to appeal to FIFA and release a statement regarding the incident that took place late on deadline day. Meanwhile, West Ham shared the following online.
‘West Ham United can confirm that the Deadline Day deal for Said Benrahma to join Olympique Lyonnais was not concluded ahead of the deadline, with a deal unable to be completed before 11pm’.
Benrahma is furious with the outcome as he was never particularly keen on joining the French side in the first place. The 28-year-old’s family is also stunned by the way in which the situation unfolded.
