Jubilant Justin Thomas and Daniel Berger DOWN beers on the first tee at the Ryder Cup in front of a raucous crowd with Team USA cruising to emphatic triumph… but furious fans hit out at ‘disrespectful’ antics
- Justin Thomas and Daniel Berger toasted Team USA’s inevitable Ryder Cup win
- Both golfers appeared on the first tee on day two and jubilantly downed beers
- Thomas had smashed his can into the ground in front of an electric home crowd
- But their antics have been criticised by some spectators for being ‘disrespectful’
A dominant Team USA are set to wrap up a comfortable Ryder Cup triumph at Whistling Straits this weekend – and the party is already underway for their golfers.
Justin Thomas and Daniel Berger fed off a wild crowd on the first tee yesterday, and downed beers in front of them before the former smashed his can into the ground.
At the time, the hosts were leading 9-3 heading into the afternoon’s fourballs session, leaving their stars in a jubilant mood and open to getting involved with fans.

However, the show of anticipation has not been well received by everyone, with a number of viewers choosing to hit out at the antics from Thomas and Berger.
‘The single most disrespectful thing that I have ever seen on a golf course,’ one furious Twitter user said.
‘Europe have virtually no fans there yet your guys celebrate early like that, absolutely appallingly (sic) behaviour, no class.’
Another wrote: ‘Hard to imagine grown men screaming like teenage girls while millionaires play golf.’
But the antics from the two Team USA golfers have been criticised by some irritated spectators
‘Not really in the spirit of the Ryder Cup though, is it?’, an equally frustrated third viewer posted.
A fourth person believes the display was ‘exhibit 50000 of Americans having absolutely no class when it comes to golf.’
And another user agreed, writing: ‘Not very classy, and didn’t even do it properly, at least a third of that tin splashes over the tee.’
‘Every time the US have a strong Ryder Cup (not often) they let themselves down with a lack of humility in the win,’ a sixth said.

‘Predictable behaviour but still disappointing.’
Thomas and Berger were informed that they would sit out for the fourballs, and quickly appeared down on the opening tee to soak up their acclaim.
Walking over to thank those in attendance in the towering grandstand, they then decided to try and fire up the home faithful even more.
They duly succeeded by picking up the cans of beer thrown down to them and finishing them off after chants of ‘chug a beer, chug a beer’.
Thomas delivered a passionate display on day two, having also won in the morning foursomes
Thomas clattered his empty drink down in delight, leading to yet more roars from spectators braced for Team USA’s victory to be made official.
Both men had also thrown beers into the gallery themselves, a move met with widespread approval from those in attendance.
Cries out ‘USA, USA, USA’ soon rained down towards the two golfers, with the confidence across the board for the hosts in Wisconsin evident.
The morning foursomes saw yet more misery for Europe, who now find themselves 11-5 down heading into the final day and must defy the odds to avoid defeat.
