Rosie Jacobs blames PTSD and surgery for driving on suspended licence

Ex-wife of former Today weatherman Steve Jacobs apologises for allegedly driving on suspended licence three times in three months as she blames surgery and PTSD for ‘stupid decisions’

Rosie Jacobs started off the new year apologising for her ‘stupid decisions’ after she was allegedly caught driving her Audi Q3 in Sydney on a suspended licence.

The 43-year-old, who is the ex-wife of former Today show weatherman Steve Jacobs, blamed her recent breast reconstruction surgery and PTSD for the blunder after she was pulled over driving to the hospital.

The travel journalist, who has just reached one year of sobriety after a high-profile alcohol struggle, said in an Instagram post on Tuesday she ‘regrets’ her choices.

‘Start of a new year, start of a few new resolutions. And again, my health has to take priority,’ she wrote alongside a picture of herself cuddling her dachshund George.

‘I’m proud to say I quit alcohol in 2021 and am still loving every day, even the tough ones – because life can still throw some curve balls!

‘What most of you won’t know is that mid last year I had multiple surgeries on my left breast – eventually having it removed and reconstructed.

‘It was traumatic – physically and emotionally – and there were long periods of time not knowing what the outcome would be.’

Rosie went on to say the surgery and breakdown of her marriage had left her with ‘high anxiety’ and diagnosed ‘PTSD’.

She said she had ‘made some stupid decisions to drive my car to the hospital post-surgery while on a suspended licence. I regret that decision. I was in a lot of pain.’

Unable to ‘undo those moments’, Rosie said she wished to start over and expressed ‘gratitude for the world that I live in, for the amazing team of specialists who have my back and for the proactive work I choose to do with my own mental health and happiness.’

She concluded her post by attacking the press for reporting on her alleged driving offence, and praising the ‘handful of incredible women in recovery’ she sponsors.

Jacobs was allegedly caught driving while her licence was suspended three times in three months – including twice in four days.

Rosie was behind the wheel of her white SUV at inner-city Darlinghurst on August 25 when police detected she should not be on the road.

The single mother of two’s licence had previously been refused in August 2021 but she had been allowed to drive under ‘good behaviour conditions’, which were granted until August last year.

‘Since the time of applying for and being granted good behaviour conditions, [Jacobs] incurred five traffic offences, subsequently voiding her good behaviour conditions,’ court documents stated.

Her licence was then suspended from May 13, 2022, until March 12, 2023, due to an accumulation of demerit points for multiple offences.
