  • The Brazilian striker’s contract at Anfield is set to expire at the end of the season
  • Firmino, 31, is leaning towards agreeing a fresh contract extension with the Reds
  • He has chalked up nine goals and four assists in 21 matches so far this campaign

Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino is attracting interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia but is still leaning towards signing a new deal at Anfield.

The Brazilian forward, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season, has been a popular player amongst Reds fans since his £29million arrival from Hoffenheim in 2015, helping the club win several titles including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup.

Firmino was once a mainstay in Jurgen Klopp’s side but has watched his game time deplete in recent campaigns, chalking up just 20 league appearances last season compared to his previous tallies of 34, 38 and 36 between 2018-19 and 2020-21.

Adding Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez has created stiffer competition for forward spots at Liverpool, and the 31-year-old’s opportunities are likely to lessen further following the £44m arrival of Cody Gakpo from PSV this month.

Having yet to sign a fresh extension with Liverpool ahead of the summer, Firmino is attracting interest from a handful of clubs in Saudi Arabia, who are eager to boost their football profile ahead of a 2030 World Cup bid.

Saudi giants Al Nassr unveiled their new superstar Cristiano Ronaldo on Tuesday after the Portuguese icon agreed to a deal worth a staggering £175m-a-year.

Although Firmino has offers on the table to join the ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid star in the Saudi Pro League, he is leaning towards signing a new contract at Anfield, with his current deal worth approximately £180,000 per week.

The striker has also piqued the interest of Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Juventus, as well as his boyhood team Sao Paolo.

Liverpool’s dismal 3-1 defeat by Brentford on Monday left Klopp’s side seven points behind Manchester United in fourth place.

However, despite the Reds’ disappointing start to the season, Firmino has enjoyed a productive campaign so far with nine goals and four assists in 21 matches across all competitions.
