Reese Witherspoon CONFIRMS third season of Big Little Lies is in the works with Nicole Kidman… five years after second installment aired

Reese Witherspoon officially confirmed that a third season of her hit series, Big Little Lies, starring her, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley and Zoë Kravitz, is in the works.

While attending the 81st Golden Globe Awards on Sunday evening, alongside her son Deacon Phillippe, the 47-year-old Oscar winner confirmed she was ‘working on it a lot’ with Kidman, 56.

‘We are working on it,’ she told Variety of bringing the hit HBO series, which received critical acclaim for its writing, directing, acting and soundtrack, back.

In November, Kidman first teased that Big Little Lies would be coming back for a third season, nearly five years after its last episode aired on July 21, 2019.

Hard at work: Reese Witherspoon officially confirmed that a third season of her hit series, Big Little Lies, starring her, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley and Zoë Kravitz, is in the works; seen in December 2023

She accidentally let the secret slip during a question and answer session at the CME Group Tour Championship Friday in Naples, Florida.

‘I loved Moulin Rouge, but I loved Big Little Lies,’ she said in a clip shared on Deux Moi’s Instagram Stories.

She continued: ‘I loved Big Little Lies because it sort of came along at a time in my life when I had my children and I was thinking I was going to retire and then this situation came along, where Reese Witherspoon and I were able to produce that show.’

‘And then all of you watched it and made it a massive success,’ she concluded. ‘We will be bringing you a third one, just FYI.’

It’s been nearly five years since season two of the HBO crime drama was released, ending on a cliff hanger when Zoe’s Bonnie Carlson was about to confess to pushing Kidman’s character’s rapist husband (played by Alexander Skarsgård) down a flight of stairs.

Earlier this year, the show’s executive producer Bruna Papandrea told Deadline: ‘I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately.’

‘I do believe a lot of people feel the way I do, which is to find a way at some point to continue.’

Big Little Lies first aired in 2017, with it based on the novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty.
