- A harrowing video showed the moments the new-born baby girl was saved
- It is believed the mother died after giving birth as well as the rest of the family
This is the harrowing moment a newborn baby was rescued from the remains of a collapsed building in Syria – moments after the girl was born under the rubble.
Footage shows the miracle baby, just minutes old, being carried to safety in the arms of a rescuer in Jenderes, in a northeast Syrian region devastated by yesterday’s 7.8-magnitude earthquake.
But while the little girl survived her ordeal, her mother is thought to have tragically died after giving birth.
According to local media, the pregnant mother – displaced from Syria’s Deir Ezzor – region – went into labour during the quake which has so far killed more than 5,000 across Turkey and Syria.
Video captures the moment one of a number of rescuers ran from the devastated building, carrying the tiny infant to safety across a mass of twisted metal, broken concrete and barbed wire.
The harrowing video showed a group of heroic men scramble to save a newborn baby girl after a mother tragically gave birth under the rubble of a collapsed building caused by an earthquake in Syria
Another man sprints after him with a dusty green blanket which he then throws to the baby’s rescuer to keep the newborn alive and warm.
Tens of people can be seen watching the men save the baby in shock and horror as they witnessed both a miracle and a tragedy.
It is believed the child survived and is currently healthy despite its’ first moments of life being in the centre of a global tragedy.
It is thought the mother along with the rest of the family sadly died after they were crushed by a collapsed building following an earthquake in Syria.
According to the comments on the video, it was filmed in one of the rural areas of Aleppo, which was severely affected by the earthquake that struck both Syria and Turkey on Monday, with a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter scale.
The video did not clarify the fate of the child’s mother, but it is widely reported in syrian media she died immediately after giving birth.
More than 700 people in opposition-controlled Syria and 538 in government-held areas of Syria have died, reports Sky.
