A massive fire has swept through a card yard in Perth, with dozens of cars ablaze.

The inferno broke out at around 5.15pm on Friday at Pickles car yard near Bibra Lake, in the south of the city.

At least 70 cars have been destroyed so far and 10 fire crews are fighting the flames.

Dramatic video from the scene show towering flames burning through three levels of cars stacked on top of each other in storage.

Smoke is spreading over nearby streets and people have been warned to stay inside where possible.

Drivers have also been asked to use their headlights while driving through the smog.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

The car yard had only just closed when the fire broke out and is home to hundreds of vehicles and boats.

Fire crews expect to be tackling the blaze for at least another four hours. Police are also on the scene.

The car yard opened in 2015. The Pickles company was founded in 1964 and has 27 yards across Australia.

Last financial year, the firm sold more than 228,000 vehicles and more than $460 million in transport and construction equipment.
