Love was well and truly in the air earlier this week as Cleary greeted Matildas forward Fowler with a kiss as she returned to Australia for the festive season.

Cleary was wearing a huge smile as he picked his 20-year-old girlfriend up at the arrivals gate after she landed from Dubai.

Fowler donned light blue jeans, a button-up shirt and a black hat for her long haul flight, while Cleary wore black shorts and a brown T-shirt.

It was the first time the loved-up couple had seen each other since November 2 when Cleary farewelled his girlfriend at Perth Airport after watching her score in the Matildas’ 3-0 win over Chinese Taipei.

Daily Mail Australia exclusively confirmed their relationship one day earlier when hey were snapped on an intimate park date together.

It has been a long six weeks since that sunny morning in Perth, with Fowler retuning to the UK to play for Manchester City while Cleary has been enjoying his off-season with a trip to the United States.

Cleary, who has been recovering from a knee injury, returned to pre-season training earlier this month with reigning champions the Penrith Panthers.

It has been a whirlwind year for Fowler. She helped guide Australia to a memorable semi-final berth in the women’s World Cup, while playing a key role in City’s Women’s Super League title charge.

‘It’s been an incredible year. It’s hard to put into words how big it’s been,’ Fowler said having emerged as one of Australia’s most important attacking weapons, especially with Sam Kerr out injured.

‘I didn’t expect that (Australians to be so invested in women’s football).

‘I think the majority of us went into the World Cup not expecting that, but that was amazing.

‘I think that was the best part of the World Cup, to see how many people got behind us and how together Australia came.’
