NRL fan removed from BlueBet stadium after allegedly hurling racist abuse at Latrell Mitchell
An NRL fan wearing a Roosters jersey was reportedly removed from BlueBet stadium after allegedly aiming a racist slur at South Sydney star Latrell Mitchell.
According to Channel 9, the incident is alleged to have taken place as the players came off the field at halftime of Souths’ clash with Penrith on Thursday night.
It is understood that security removed the fan during the half time interval.
‘Latrell Mitchell was the target of a quite disgusting racial slur,’ Danika Mason said on Channel 9. ‘He heard it, his teammates heard it. South Sydney then put in a formal complaint against the fan.
‘Police were investigating, they spoke to a member of the seating area next to the tunnel, a fan wearing a Roosters journey.
‘The NRL said they would be reviewing the situation, they will be looking at the CCTV from around this area to ascertain where this racial slur came from.
‘Police questioned a number of fans in the area as well. What we can expect is the integrity unit will be involved and the NRL will come down hard if they find the perpetrator.’
