‘I’m only just now getting into prep, we’re going to start shooting soon. It’s exciting, I can’t say much more,’ Naomi told Entertainment Weekly last September.

She said she was ‘thrilled’ to be working with Ryan on ‘a genre that you know I love’.

It comes after Naomi appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show on Tuesday and admitted she wished her parents were ‘less cool’ when she was younger.

Her mother Myfanwy Watts was a model who was married to Peter Watts, the road manager and sound engineer for the rock band Pink Floyd.

‘I wished my mum would turn up to school in like a three-piece suit and be wearing some, I don’t know, nylon threads,’ she told host Drew Barrymore.

‘They were just never those people. My mum wore like leather boots, platform, leather pants, hair, you know be rocking her way in.’

She added, ‘I’d be, “Please mum.” I longed for normal, straight parents. They were not that.’

‘Now your mom was a model,’ marvelled Barrymore, ‘and your dad was a sound engineer for Pink Floyd?’

‘Yeah,’ replied Watts. ‘Yes, it’s kind of a big deal.’

Drew went on to ask the acclaimed actress if she wished her parents were ‘less cool’ growing up, and Naomi responded with an emphatic yes.

‘Oh yeah,’ she replied.

Naomi’s parents also welcomed son Ben Watts, a noted photographer.

The couple divorced in 1962, but were reportedly in the midst of reconciling when Naomi’s father tragically died of a heroin overdose in 1976.

Opening up to Daily Mail Australia in 2015, Naomi’s mother spoke candidly of Peter Watts’s sudden death.

‘We were divorced at the time, but the sad thing is we were having a second try at our marriage when it happened.’

Myfanwy said she and her children were blindsided by his addiction. ‘We had no inkling he was using heroin at all,’ she said.

‘It left scars,’ Naomi’s mother revealed. ‘It was a shock. His death made Naomi incredibly determined. It had a profound effect on her, as it did on the entire family.’ She went on to say how the formative tragedy has been a silver lining in regards to helping the two-time Oscar nominee emotionally connect to dramatic rolls.
