My Kitchen Rules’ Steven and Frena devastated as ‘heartbroken’ Nigella Lawson slams their dessert

My Kitchen Rules couple Steven and Frena left devastated as ‘heartbroken’ Nigella Lawson slams their Malaysian corn pudding with a twist: ‘You’ve taken the flavours away’

My Kitchen Rules contestants Steven and Frena were devastated when their unique Malaysian corn pudding failed to impress the judges on Tuesday night.

The pair prepared a traditional corn pudding but added strawberries and chocolate sauce to their final dish.

However the couple’s creation failed to impress judges Nigella Lawson and Manu Feildel.

Steven and Frena realised the pudding had not set properly when they removed it from the fridge.

‘We both had this sinking feeling in the pit of our stomachs, and there was no hope of changing it whatsoever,’ Frena admitted.

After presenting their dessert to the judges, Nigella admitted to the couple she was less than impressed with the dish.

‘I find it heartbreaking. You wanted to bring us your flavours and you’ve taken them away,’ she said.

‘You’ve changed the texture and the flavour – you’ve reduced the sugar. In a way, you haven’t given us an opportunity to taste your food and that’s sad.

‘It’s sad for us. How I wish you had given us proper Malaysian corn pudding.’

Manu agreed, adding: ‘It’s a question of trying to reinvent the wheel – that doesn’t work, to put fresh fruit in a pudding.’

‘I could have told you that wouldn’t be working for strawberries.’

After hearing the feedback, Steven said ‘there was nothing really they could say that was positive because it just did not work out.’

The couple’s final score from the judges and other contestants placed them at the bottom of the leaderboard.
