Top Gun: Maverick heartthrob Miles Teller is negotiating a potential role as one of Michael Jackson’s lawyers in a biopic of the late King Of Pop.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, whose work includes Training Day and The Equalizer, the upcoming film will see Michael played by his nephew Jaafar.

Rustin star Colman Domingo will star as the Jackson Five’s formidable father Joe, with Nia Long playing the family matriarch Katherine.

Now, a report in Deadline has revealed that Miles has entered talks to play one of Michael’s attorneys, but has not signed a deal yet.

It is unknown which lawyer Miles is eyeing the possibility of playing – in particular whether he will portray Howard Weitzman, Mark Geragos or Thomas Mesereau.

Each of those three men provided legal counsel to Michael at various stages as he fended off allegations that he was a child molester.

Michael died at the age of 50 in 2009 from a cardiac arrest he suffered after having Propofol administered as a sleep aid.

His legacy has come under renewed scrutiny in recent years because of the long-running accusations that he sexually abused children.

Although Michael was acquitted in 2005, the allegations have persisted in the public square, including in the 2019 docuseries Leaving Neverland.

Meanwhile the upcoming biopic, which is entitled simply Michael, is scripted by three-time Oscar nominated screenwriter John Logan.

John’s filmography has a writer has included such memorable pictures as Gladiator, SkyFall, The Aviator and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street.

Michael, the movie, has entered principal photography and a first-look image has surfaced of Jaafar in character as his late uncle.

The shoot hit a stumbling block last year when the Hollywood strikes forced productions to be halted, but it has since recommenced.

Last January, after news broke that Jaafar would be playing Michael in the movie, he shared his emotional reaction on Instagram.

‘I’m humbled and honored to bring my Uncle Michael’s story to life. To all the fans all over the world, I’ll see you soon,’ he wrote.

Jaafar is the son of Jermaine Jackson, who rose to fame with Michael and three of their siblings as part of the Jackson Five in the 1960s.

Michael’s mother Katherine, who is now 93 and is to be portrayed by Nia Long in the film, has granted her imprimatur to the forthcoming biopic.

‘Ever since Michael was little, as a member of The Jackson 5, he loved the magic of cinema,’ Katherine declared in a public statement. ‘As a family, we are honored to have our life story come alive on the big screen.’
