Canadian pop star Michael Buble was on a trip while selecting players for his team at the NHL’s All-Star weekend in Toronto.
During the draft portion of the week’s festivities, Buble served as the celebrity captain for Team Hughes.
Buble revealed himself to be an avid fantasy hockey player – before revealing a little bit more by explaining what his evening was like.
‘I’m in more than one [fantasy] hockey league,’ he said. ‘In the LHL … I happen to be in fifth place. Even though I had no first overall pick, first pick even, I didn’t even have a first-rounder. And I still did what I had to do because of my genius. Second, I am first place in the FHL, [my] other fantasy hockey league.’

‘Third, my buddy told me: “This is just a microdose of mushrooms.” And he was lying. So, I’ll be honest, I thought I was in “Blades of Glory” for most of the time that I was out there until it sort of settled down.
‘And then I realized, “Holy s–t. I am at the NHL All-Star Game.”‘
Buble didn’t let the psychedelics harm his expertise when it comes to picking an All-Star team as he helped NHL brothers Jack Hughes and Quinn Hughes load up on top players.
After taking Tampa Bay Lightning winger Nikita Kucherov with the first-overall pick, Buble made sure the two brothers were surrounded by players they knew.
For New Jersey Devils forward Jack, Buble added teammate Jesper Bratt. Then, the British Columbia native loaded the rest of the team with Quinn’s fellow Vancouver Canucks stars: Elias Pettersson, Thatcher Demko, Brock Boeser, and J.T. Miller.
But Buble may be feeling a sting somewhere else: his wallet, as fellow celebrity captain Will Arnett joked next to the singer.
‘You know, it just occurs to me that … through all the incredible songs that you’ve done over the years and all the hearts of women that you won over around the world, with all that talk about fantasy hockey you lost them all in one sentence,’ actor Will Arnett, the celebrity co-captain of Team McDavid, chirped. ‘It all just evaporated. Years of building it up and it’s just gone.’
‘The mushroom talk lost me all of my contracts,’ Buble added with a smile.
Friday night features the NHL skills competition, followed by Saturday’s four-team, 3-on-3 tournament.
