MG has smashed its sales records amid booming demand for its electric vehicles.
The British motoring brand has sold its 20,000th car of the year – a milestone never reached before.
It means that sales have already eclipsed the previous record of 18,415 set across the whole of 2020 – which was up 41 per cent on 2019.
Electric sales: British motoring brand MG has sold its 20,000th car of the year – a milestone never reached before
Growth was driven by the firm’s new electric vehicles, including the MG5 EV and the MG HS Plug-In Hybrid.
‘To pass the 20,000 milestone with three-and-a-half months to go is incredible news and it shows just how popular our new models are with the British car buying public’, said Guy Pigounakis, MG’s commercial director.
Tracing its roots back to the 1920s, MG became famous for its two-seater sports cars, with the first models bearing the badge rolling off the production line at British motoring institution Morris Garages.
MG is now owned by Shanghai-based SAIC Motor, China’s largest car maker. Cars bearing the MG name are sold across India, Australia, Brazil and South Africa.
