Matty Healy’s romance with Taylor Swift has set social media ablaze after sources claimed that the pair are ‘madly in love.’
The couple were even pictured by a fan enjoying a cosy dinner date with Swift’s collaborator Jack Antonoff and his fiancee Margaret Qualley at Casa Cipriani on Thursday.
But many US fans of the 1975 star will be unaware that he is the son of an UK soap star with a hugely colourful past, called Denise Welch.
The actress, 64, has openly shared her support for Matty and his music success, and even posed for a snap with Taylor at one of her son’s concerts.

Denise has appeared in a slew of British TV series and soap operas in a career spanning more than 20 years.
Her best known role is the villainous Natalie Barnes in Coronation Street, who made headlines thanks to her steamy on-screen affair with Kevin Webster.
Joining the cast in 1997, after her romance with Kevin crumbled, Natalie left the Street for pastures new in 2000.
Denise also had a long-running role as Steph Haydock in the BBC drama Waterloo Road, and recently returned to the soap world as Trish Minniver in Hollyoaks between 2021 and 2022.
While Denise has continued to act steadily throughout her career, she is also a fixture on British daytime TV, as a star of the panel show Loose Women.
The series, which is akin to US favourite The View, sees Denise debate hot topic issues with her co-stars and interview celebrities.
Denise’s love life is almost as eventful as her characters’ soap storylines, having first been married to David Easter from 1983 until 1988.
She was then married to Tim Healy, Matty’s father from 1988 until 2012, with the actor a star of the iconic British sitcom Auf Wiedersehen, Pet.

The pair have remained on good terms after ending their 24-year marriage, and the following year Denise married her current husband, Lincoln Townley.
Denise has also had her fair share of personal woes, battling alcoholism and mental illness, including depression, and has been sober for 11 years.
In an excerpt from her book, The Unwelcome Visitor: Depression and How I Survive It, the Loose Women panellist admitted that she tried to fight her loneliness with alcohol but said it left her in ‘a dead zone.’
The TV star also claimed her depression got so bad at one stage while she was filming Coronation Street that she would hide in her dressing room or pretend to be asleep so that she wouldn’t have to interact with others.
In an excerpt of her book obtained by The Mirror, Denise explained: ‘Because of my mental illness, there were times I didn’t know if I was going to make it through.
‘Alcohol made things worse. I drank a lot, reaching for anything to take away the pain and keep me going… to lift the isolation and loneliness. It put me into kind of a dead zone.
‘For the two or three hours I was actually consuming alcohol, it obliterated my illness. That is why so many people with depression drink.’
Denise was diagnosed with clinical depression after Matty was born in 1989.
She went on say she wasn’t sure whether her alcoholism caused her depression or vice versa, as she claimed one problem feeds off the other.
The actress also explained that Princess Diana’s death in 1997 impacted her very deeply, causing her to ‘start wailing in grief’ and see everything as ‘red’ as she became consumed by terror.
Detailing several subsequent mental breakdowns, Denise added that she realised she needed help during a holiday in Turkey, and turned to fellow Corrie star Kevin Kennedy to help her get into AA.
The ex-Waterloo Road star spoke candidly about her ‘unwelcome visitor’ and the challenge with trying to be ‘kinder’ to herself in a post shared to social media last September.

She also revealed her depressive episodes make the colour ‘drain out of her life’ within 30 seconds and leave her ‘dead behind the eyes’.
The media personality previously turned to self medicating her depression with drink and drugs.
Despite saying her teenage son Louis considers their sober household ‘a bit boring’, she insisted she has more fun now than she did when she was drinking.
Denise said on daytime talk show Lorraine back in 2018: ‘We’re very open about it. Obviously Louis grows up in a sober household which I’m sure he thinks is a bit boring sometimes, when I don’t want turn a blind eye to parties of 84 people traipsing through my house.
‘Ultimately, it’s got to be a good thing and being sober doesn’t mean being boring, I have more fun than I’ve ever had now than when I was drinking.’
Earlier this week, DailyMail.com exclusively obtained the first photos of Swift and Healy together in wake of the romance rumors.
And just days later, a source told Page Six that the pair were ‘cuddling and kissing’ as they enjoyed dinner together.

The couple were pictured arriving to Taylor’s condo at 12:30AM on Sunday morning following her Eras concert in Nashville, Tennessee.
It was first reported last week that Matty and Taylor had planned to debut their romance by her bringing him up on stage to perform several songs at her Nashville shows.
Matty did perform during Saturday’s show with Taylor’s opening act but remained in the audience during the Mean singer’s stage time.
Whether he will hop onto the stage once again to perform with the Blank Space hitmaker has yet to seen.
