Meet Finnian, a medical alert service dog who has abseiled, kayaked and ice-skated his way to over 54,000 Instagram and 74,000 TikTok followers.
Heartwarming photos and videos of his antics form entries in digital diaries – under the user name ‘finnianthegoldie’ – that document his travels around the world. The two-year-old golden retriever has visited Gibraltar, France, Spain, Andorra, Iceland and Canada – as well as half of America’s states – so far.
The service dog, whose main job is cardiac alert, has been with his owner – who has a form of dysautonomia, which impacts the nervous system – since he was just two months old and they have formed a particularly special relationship through their travels together.
She said: ‘Being able to travel together makes our bond as a service dog team much stronger. It builds our trust every time we travel somewhere because I know I can rely on him to help me when I have medical episodes and I feel safer when I’m with him.’
One video of Finnian abseiling down slot canyons in Utah has had over two million views, with his owner revealing that she was surprised at how much he loved it. ‘I’ve never seen him so excited. He was running around in circles,’ she said. The adventurous pup also loves to lie on her lap whilst she is kayaking and recently visited a frozen lake in Colorado where his owner, a keen figure skater, taught him how to ice skate.
Finnian’s family also include the owner’s husband, a software engineer, and two other dogs, a six-year-old Pomeranian called Lacey and a four-year-old Goldendoodle called Keegan. They are based in Massachusetts but travel around the U.S in a converted 1991 GMC van. Scroll down to see pictures and videos from Finnian’s adventures…
