Mason Mount misses an OPEN GOAL on his Old Trafford debut as the England star’s tricky start to his Man United career continues

Mason Mount endured a moment to forget in Manchester United’s pre-season friendly against Lens on Saturday.

With the return of the Premier League fast approaching, Mount made his first appearance at Old Trafford since joining United from Chelsea this summer.

In their penultimate pre-season fixture of the summer, United faced Ligue 1 side Lens with Mount still searching for his first goal for the club.

Just 15 minutes in the England international would be handed a golden opportunity to do just that as Marcus Rashford delivered a stunning long ball to Alejandro Garnacho that caught former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Brice Samba hopelessly out of position in the Lens goal.

Garnacho duly squared the ball to mount inside the 18-yard box but the summer signing was unable to connect with his strike, with the ball instead recoiling off his standing leg.

The friendly would only get worse in the first half for Erik ten Hag’s side, with fellow new arrival Andre Onana caught off his line as Florian Sotoca gave the visitors the lead.

In the wake of Mount’s miss, United fans took to social media, with many questioning why Ten Hag was so determined to sign the 24-year-old.
