Love Island Australia: Sophie Monk reacts to stars’ geography gaffe

Sophie Monk admits she had to do a Google search after two Love Island Australia contestants thought Asia was a country

Love Island Australia stars Tayla Mellington and Ryan Reid shocked fans earlier this month with their woeful knowledge of basic geography.

And after their embarrassing gaffe, host Sophie Monk admitted she had to pull out Google Maps herself to double check things.

The 41-year-old made the admission on Today Extra on Wednesday, while promoting the Love Island Australia finale.

Least she’s honest! Sophie Monk admitted on Today Extra on Wednesday she had to do a Google search after two Love Island Australia contestants thought Asia was a country

Tayla said on the show she thought Asia was a country and confessed she didn’t know where Bali and Thailand were located.

Ryan then incorrectly said Singapore was in Indonesia.

After airing footage of the moment, Sophie told Today Extra hosts Sylvia Jeffreys and David Campbell: ‘I don’t know how Singapore feels about being part of Indonesia!’

'But I had to Google it, because [Ryan] said it so confidently, I was like, "Maybe I got it wrong!"' Sophie said

‘It’s all in the conviction… love it,’ Sylvia added with a laugh.

Sophie said she had ‘no clue who is going to win’ ahead of the finale on Wednesday.

‘I can’t predict what’s going to happen at all. Every time I read on socials, everyone is so passionate and every day it changes who their favourite is.’

It comes after Tayla, who works in the travel industry, and Ryan, made an embarrassing gaffe on Love Island Australia earlier this month.

‘People call up and say, “I’m going from Bali to Thailand,” and I’m like, “Is that international travel?” I wouldn’t know. Or is that domestic?’ she explained.

She then said Bali and Thailand ‘are all in the same f**king country’.

Ryan tried to explain the basics to her, but made a mistake himself by incorrectly saying Singapore was in Indonesia.

Laughing out loud, Tayla responded: ‘I did not know that. No idea!’

Viewers were shocked by the pair’s lack of knowledge, with one commenting on social media: ‘She should be fired from her travel job!’

‘Not a brain cell to rub together,’ another wrote, while a third added: ‘Did she just put all of Asia in one bubble?’

Love Island Australia continues Wednesday at 9:30pm on Nine
