Lord Rothermere to become new Daily Mail group chief executive after taking the publisher private

Lord Rothermere will become the chief executive of the Daily Mail group after taking the publisher private in December.

Paul Zwillenberg will be stepping down as chief executive of the Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT) after a six-year tenure that saw the group take over the i newspaper and New Scientist magazine.

Lord Rothermere, who is already chairman of the Daily Mail, takes on the additional role from September 30.

DMGT delisted from the London Stock Exchange after its biggest shareholder, the Rothermere family, took it private.

Lord Rothermere said yesterday that the publisher was now ‘master of our own destiny’. 

Thanking Zwillenberg, he told employees: ‘I am immensely grateful to Paul for everything that he has done over the past six-and-a-half years.’

Zwillenberg, who will be a senior adviser, said it was the greatest privilege of his career to work with Lord Rothermere while stewarding DMGT at an important time.
