London Bridge terrorist Usman Khan ‘knifed victim Jack Merritt in toilets when hero confronted him’

London Bridge terrorist Usman Khan ‘knifed victim Jack Merritt in the toilets when hero confronted him’ as he prepared to go on his knife rampage

  • Jack Merritt was looking for Khan at Fishmonger’s Hall and found him in toilets
  • Khan was readying himself for the attack and stabbed Jack once, killing him
  • He then went into the conference and threatened to blow up a suicide vest
  • The account was shared by the ex-partner of John Crilly who fought off Khan

London Bridge terrorist Usman Khan stabbed Jack Merritt in the toilets while the killer was readying himself for his horrific rampage.

After knifing him, Khan then entered the conference he had been attending and threatened to detonate a suicide vest which later proved to be fake.

The revelations provide the first account of how Jack, 25, came by his death inside Fishmonger’s Hall before the violence spilled outside.

Saskia Jones also died in the rampage

Lisa Trayers said her former partner and killer John Crilly fought Khan with a fire extinguisher and recalled the dramatic scenes to their son Warren shortly afterwards.

She told The Sun that people at the meeting had noticed the terrorist had gone missing and they started looking for him.

She said: ‘Jack had gone into the toilet — that’s when he claimed his first victim and stabbed Jack. He must have been strapping himself up.

‘The terrorist was wearing a big bubble jacket and wouldn’t take it off. Khan was very quiet and didn’t say much and when he’s come out of the toilet that’s when he’s said he was going to blow the building up. They started throwing chairs at him and that’s when he stabbed his second victim.

‘They chased him out of the building then.’

Jack and the second victim Saskia Jones, 23, were both killed by single knife wounds.

The pair had been running a Learning Together programme to help rehabilitate former prisoners.

Lisa, 48, from Manchester, said Jack had driven both killer Crilly and terrorist Khan to the event.

Jack had even been to Manchester to visit Crilly when the killer graduated from the Open University.

Crilly was initially convicted of murder but that was reduced to manslaughter on appeal and he was freed from prison last year.

Lisa, who split from him more than 20 years ago, said he was on drugs at the time of the killing and he is not a murderer.

She said: ‘He’s trying to help other prisoners. It’s in his nature to help. Jack and Saskia used to go into the prisons and that’s how Crilly met them.’

Dramatic video footage of the attack showed Crilly spraying Khan with the extinguisher while another man wielded a narwhal tusk he had taken from the walls of Fishmonger’s Hall.

Khan injured three others before he was shot dead by police.

Afterwards Crilly, 48, called Jack ‘the best guy I ever met’.
