Liverpool’s midfield trio were ‘not at the races’ against Chelsea claims Graeme Souness as the ex-Reds boss insists Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and James Milner ‘were bullied’ by their title rivals
- Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday
- The Reds squandered a two-goal advantage to allow Chelsea to claw back
- The result sees runaway league leaders Man City pull 11 points clear at the top
- Graeme Souness claimed the Reds’ midfield were responsible for the collapse
Former Liverpool manager Graeme Souness has called out three Liverpool players for their poor performances in draw with Chelsea on Sunday.
Jurgen Klopp’s side suffered a potentially fatal blow in their title race hopes as Chelsea fought back to share the spoils at Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool snatched the lead 10 minutes into the game as Sadio Mane capitalised on a defensive error by Trevoh Chalobah before Mohamed Salah put the Reds in control with a wonder goal.

But the visitors squandered their two-goal advantage as they allowed Chelsea clawed the score back to 2-2 within the final five minutes of the first-half.
Following the game, Souness claimed the Reds’ midfield trio were responsible for their collapse.

And the Liverpool legend insisted the Spaniard was sorely missed from the crunch clash as the Reds were ‘bullied’ by their title rivals in the middle of the park.
‘Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and James Milner were not at the races today,’ Souness told Sky Sports.
‘They were bossed and bullied by Chelsea’s midfield. It wasn’t the Liverpool we’re seeing of the last three, four years where they bullied teams.
‘Liverpool need more of a maestro in there, they go and get Thiago which is certainly better than what they’ve had.

‘But doing that you lose that momentum in terms of pressing, being aggressive and always on the front foot.
‘They were exposed today Liverpool by the midfield not really being able to manage Chelsea’s midfield. You always felt as if Liverpool were on the back foot.’
Milner was substituted off after 69 minutes to be replaced by Naby Keita after the Premier League veteran managed a pass success rating of just 65 per cent, losing six duels and being dispossessed twice.

Fabinho also floundered as the Brazilian lost 10 duels, conceded two fouls and was dispossessed twice.
Henderson arguably fared the best of the trio but the skipper’s performance was not enough to salvage all three points for the Reds.
Premier League champions Man City are running away at the top of the table as Liverpool and Chelsea’s stalemate sees Kevin de Bruyne and co move 11 points clear.
