Saka drives it across… but no one’s there!

Better play from the visitors as Saka drives a cross across the six-yard box but there’s no one in lime green to tap it home.

It’s encouraging signs for Arteta’s side, who looked a bit sheepish in the early stages of this one.

Gomez comes close!

Liverpool are getting closer and closer to a goal and this time it’s Joe Gomez. The full-back wraps his foot round the ball and curls an effort towards the far-post but it drifts just wide. Agonisingly close.

The hosts come charging forward again

Wow, another big chance for Liverpool. Zinchenko is caught on the ball and Salah charges forward. He tries to find Gakpo but it’s well intercepted by Rice.

End-to-end action!

Both teams are flying forward on the attack at will and it’s leaving all sorts of gaps in defence.

Great viewing for the neutral but you get a feeling that a goal is coming if it stays like this.

Big chance for Liverpool!

Arsenal are creating themselves all kinds of problems at the start of the this half but the hosts can’t make them pay.

Salah, this time, has an effort at goal but it’s deflected and bounces safely into Raya’s arms.

SECOND-HALF: Liverpool 1-1 Arsenal

Midway through the first half, the Arsenal skipper slipped inside the Liverpool penalty box and as he fell it appeared that he put his hand on the ball.

Liverpool were adamant that should have a penalty as a result of the incident, but it wasn’t spotted by the referee and then ruled out after a VAR check.

Manchester United continue to break records under Erik ten Hag. Unfortunately for them these are not records to be proud of.

The Red Devils’ dismal season continued with a 2-0 defeat to West Ham at the London Stadium on Saturday, Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus getting the goals in the second half.

The result leaves United eighth in the table, eight points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham.

Martinelli fires wide!

A golden chance for the Gunners! Saka finds himself behind the Liverpool defence but can’t manage to get a shot off.

It eventually falls to Martinelli, with Liverpool’s defence scrambling to get back, but he fires it just wide of the goal. Big chance.

Liverpool counter but can’t make it count

Big chance for the Reds there. They break up the pitch after a loose ball from White and have bodies flying forward.

Salah tries to slip it to Gakpo but Raya collects. Had he looked up, he would’ve seen Diaz unmarked at the back-post.

Liverpool substitution

Konstantinos Tsimikas is replaced by Joe Gomez.

Klopp gets wiped out!

Oh dear! Saka pushes Tsimikas who falls into the Liverpool boss and sends him tumbling.

The German looks okay but the same can’t be said for his full-back, at the moment…

GOAL! Liverpool 1-1 Arsenal (Salah)

That’s Mohammed Salah at his best! The Egyptian breezes past Zinchenko before rifling an effort into the back of the net.

Arsenal will be disappointed with their defending for that one but take nothing away from the finish. Superb.

Liverpool under growing pressure…

The hosts just can’t seem to get going at the moment. They need some of their senior players to step up here.

Huge call by VAR!

Odegaard appears to slip and, as he falls, places his hand on the ball inside the box. Liverpool were adamant it should have been a penalty but VAR thinks otherwise.

The tension is rising at Anfield…

What a start this has been. The visitors have bundles of energy and aren’t afraid to get bodies forward. The hosts, meanwhile, are starting to grow into this one, as Salah is brought down by Rice.

Salah smashes it into the side netting!

So close for Salah! The Egyptian is left unmarked at the back post and has time to catch it on the volley but can’t get his effort on goal.

Jesus fires over!

The Brazilian international smashes an effort over the bar but it’s more positive signs for the Gunners.

Quiet start from the hosts

Liverpool are yet to get into their flow in this match. The visitors are making it very difficult for them to get into any sort of ryhthm, at the moment.

GOAL! Liverpool 0-1 Arsenal (Gabriel)

It’s the perfect start for Mikel Arteta’s side as Gabriel Magalhaes heads home for the visitors.

It was a terrific delivery from Odegaard to find the Brazilian. It is going to a VAR check… but they rule it onside! What a start.

Early chance for the Gunners!

Blistering start from Arsenal as Saka whips a ball into the box that Alisson can only palm away. Jesus goes for the rebound but it deflects wide.

Klopp: ‘Arsenal have matured into a top team’

‘It’s a completely different game, we not only came from that game but we came from behind and had to make a turnaround. It was an important game (in April) so is this, it’s different. We’re in a different place, Arsenal are a different team, more experienced and have matured into a top team. It’s good what they’ve done, we respect that, we are a good team and we cannot forget that and that’s what I want to see tonight.’

Klopp: ‘We want to use momentum!’

The Liverpools boss spoke to Sky Sports pre-match:

‘We want to use momentum with players but quick succession of games we have to make sure the lads are in the right place. I’m happy with the line-up, we will need all of them, it’s good we played well (vs West Ham).’

10 minutes until kick-off…

Will the Gunners be at the top of the table on Christmas day?

Winter snaps!

It’s going to be a chilly one at Anfield tonight…

It is not quite Jay-Z’s 99 Problems, but Liverpool and Arsenal have No9 problems. Darwin Nunez has not scored for Liverpool since November 1, an 11-match drought, while Gabriel Jesus has netted just three times in the Premier League this season.

Liverpool have fired in 25 goals since Nunez last did so, while the hard-working Jesus contributes so much more than goals, so their profligacy is hardly an existential crisis. But can a team really win the title without a clinical No 9?

There were many factors that led to Manchester City storming to the Treble last season, from John Stones’s hybrid role to the form of captain Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne, but the chief reason for their success was undoubtedly Erling Haaland’s goals. All 52 of them.

Anfield is ready!

Liverpool supporters will pack out Anfield for the final time of the year today and what a moment it could be for Jurgen Klopp’s side as they strive to go top of the Premier League.

3pm kick off updates

Man United lost against West Ham in today’s early Christmas kick off and there is currently action going on around the grounds in the 3pm matches.

Keep updated with all the key moments from those matches below.

Last time we were here…

Arsenal arrived at Anfield last season needing a win to really put the pressure on eventual champions Man City in the title race. It seemed like they had exactly that after taking a two-goal lead before being pegged back.

A point is respectable for any visiting team at Anfield, but the manner of last season’s result kick-started Arsenal’s end-of-season crumble and they can’t let that happen again today.

Remind yourself of all the Anfield drama from last season below.

Good afternoon and welcome to Anfield

Good afternoon, Christmas is just two days away and both of today’s teams can climb to the top of the Premier League table with a win at Anfield this afternoon.

Last season’s clash on Merseyside ended in a thrilling draw, but there is a feeling that Arsenal and Liverpool will be going all-out for a vital three-points today.

Kick off is at 5.30pm and we have plenty to cover before that.
