Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami to face Charlotte in Leagues Cup quarter finals after comical own goal sees Houston throw away lead late on

Charlotte FC set up a quarter-final clash with Inter Miami after scoring twice in a minute to beat the Houston Dynamo in the Leagues Cup on Monday night.

Houston led 1-0 after only 10 minutes thanks to a goal that was put away by Houston FC forward Corey Baird.

That was before however Charlotte turned the game around with two goals in quick succession.

The first goal to tie the game came from Patrick Agyemang after he rounded the goalkeeper in the 80 minute to tie the game.

Then, just moments later, Dynamo defender Micael scored a comical own goal after passing the ball into his own net from 25 yards out.

Following the comeback-victory, Charlotte will now face Lionel Messi and his superhot Inter Miami teammates on Friday, August 11.

The game will take place in Miami’s home field DRV PNK Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

It’ll be the fourth contest Inter Miami has hosted in this competition since it began a few weeks ago.

As of now, the only place you can catch this match is on Apple TV+ through the MLS Season Pass subscription.

Miami’s ascension in the competition began when Messi announced his arrival onto the American soccer scene with a game-winning free kick against Cruz Azul in the opening match of the competition after subbing on late in the contest.

They followed that up with a 4-0 beatdown of Atlanta United – where Messi bagged a brace. The Round of 32 saw a 3-1 defeat of Floridian rivals Orlando City, with the Argentine scoring twice again.

Finally, there was Sunday night’s Round of 16 clash, which saw Messi scoring the first and fourth goals for his team before converting a penalty to help win the game. It was also the first penalty shootout victory in Messi’s career.
