After three years of waiting, Killer Mike’s son Mikael ‘Pony Boy’ Render is now receiving a kidney transplant.
TMZ reports that the Grammy-winning rapper is with his son, 21, today as Mikael undergoes surgery.
Mikael suffers from kidney disease and has been waiting for a transplant for three years.
It comes after his father received three Grammys before he was taken away from the awards show in handcuffs following a ‘physical altercation.’
Mike – born Michael Santiago Render – recently spoke about his son’s kidney disease and how he had recently been moved up on the waiting list for a new organ.

The rapper reflected on the symptoms his son – who is also a rapper and musician – first exhibited before he finally received a diagnosis.
‘When I look back on it, there were tell-tale signs of when he said his feet hurting him, but he swolled up once and we didn’t understand what was going on,’ he explained during an interview with Graham Bensinger back in November 2023.
‘It was his kidneys beginning to not work and his body retaining fluid,’ he continued.
Mike said he had received the good news about the wait list a few weeks prior, and said the surgery would mean his son would finally be able to live a ‘full life’.
‘I got a call a few weeks ago that he’s bumped up in the kidney transplant list, that my child get an opportunity to live a full life as a young man,’ he said.
‘I just want my child to get that kidney and to be as free as a bird,’ he also said.
It comes less than 24 hours after Killer Mike, known for his work as a member of rap duo Run The Jewels, won the Grammy Awards for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for his solo song ‘Scientists & Engineers,’ and the Best Rap Album for Michael.
After his victories, however, controversy erupted – he was taken away from the awards show in handcuffs following a ‘physical altercation’.

A spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department told DailyMail.com that a man was being questioned, but they could not confirm his identity. TMZ reported he has been booked for battery on a citizen’s arrest.
‘At 4pm an adult male was taken into custody for a physical altercation that took place inside the arena,’ the spokesman said, explaining that the ‘altercation’ happened moments before the person was arrested. TMZ reported that Killer Mike scuffled with a security guard.
‘Right now, the preliminary investigation is: he is being investigated for battery,’ the spokesman said.
‘He will not be identified until he is arrested and charged, if he is.’
The LAPD ultimately confirmed via X that Killer Mike had been booked for misdemeanor battery and was ‘in the process of being released.’
Citing police records, Entertainment Weekly reports that the rapper was arrested at 3:20PM PT and booked at 7:30pm PT. He was ultimately released a little over an hour later.
Video obtained by TMZ showed the rapper appearing to get into an argument with security guards as he walked in the rain outside – with someone carrying an umbrella over his head.

TMZ reported that, moments before the clip was filmed, Killer Mike knocked a security guard down as he was trying to leave.
The security guard allegedly did not get out of Killer Mike’s way fast enough, according to TMZ. The video obtained by the outlet appears to show what allegedly transpired right after the altercation.
In the footage, the rapper appears to be trying to get past the security team, and security seems to be attempting to block him. There appeared to be a fierce dispute, and the rapper shoved a security guard on the shoulder while trying to walk around him.
As the rapper was brought back into the arena for questioning, someone yelled: ‘Free Mike!’
The rapper has yet to comment on the arrest.
Killer Mike is well known for his political activism. He was a vocal supporter of Bernie Sanders, and endorsed Democrat senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock for his home state of Georgia.
Before he was handcuffed, the Atlanta-born star was backstage reminiscing on his path to Grammy stardom.
‘The only thing that limits your age is not being truthful about your age or what you’re doing,’ he told the assembled media.
‘At 20 years old, I thought it was cool to be a drug dealer.
‘At 40, I started to live with the regrets and the things I’ve done.
‘At 45, I started to rap about it.
‘At 48, I stand here as a man full of empathy and sympathy for the things I’ve done.’
