Kate Middleton and Tom Cruise make the dash from Wimbledon to Wembley

It was a bumper day of sport today, and the Duchess of Cambridge and Tom Cruise did all they could to watch as much as possible.

Kate Middleton, 39, and Cruise, 59, both watched Novak Djokovic storm to his sixth Wimbledon victory – before making the dash across London to cheer on England in the Euro 2020 final at Wembley.

On a clear road, the drive from the All England Club to Wembley stadium takes roughly 40 minutes.

Djokovic won his match against Matteo Berrettini at 6pm, meaning sports fans including Kate and Tom faced a tight turnaround to make it in time for kick-off at 8pm.

However both made it in time and took their seats ahead of the National Anthems. They were joined in the box by fellow VIPs including David Beckham and Boris and Carrie Johnson.

The Duchess of Cambridge has the use of a police escort when on official engagements, which would have made the journey quicker.

Kate joined her father Michael Middleton to watch the Gentlemen’s Wheelchair Singles Final between Gordon Reid and Joachim Gerard on court three – and later joined VIPs in the Royal Box on Centre Court to watch Novak Djokovic beat Matteo Berrettini.

Cruise, who was seated with friends including film director Christopher McQuarrie and Mission: Impossible 7 co-star Esai Morales, also watched the final but was not seated in the Royal Box.

Every inch the Hollywood star, he waved to the crowd as he took his seat on Centre Court. Later Cruise, who wore the same blue suit to both engagements, turned the charm on the Prime Minister and posed for photos with Boris and Carrie.

It is not known whether the Duchess first went back to Kensington Palace before making the trip to Wembley, but the timing – it is at least 25 minutes from Wimbledon to Kensington Palace and another 30 minutes from the palace to Wembley – makes it unlikely.

Cruise made the trip to Wembley with McQuarrie, and was photographed next to the director in the stadium.

Prince George once again stole the spotlight as he joined his parents the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to cheer on the Three Lions.

George, seven, threw his arms out and shouted in pure joy as Luke Shaw powered England to an early lead over Italy in the opening minutes.

The young royal then hugged his mother Kate, 39, in a moment that captured the unbridled excitement of millions across the nation.

George, who previously joined his parents for the England vs Germany match, looked smart in a blazer, shirt and striped tie for the occasion, in a look that mirrored his father’s own smart ensemble.

Earlier Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli revealed that Prince William wanted his son George to wear an England shirt to tonight’s match – but Kate Middleton is ‘not so keen’.

For her part, the Duchess of Cambridge looked typically polished in a white blazer, top and statement red earrings – in a nod to the colours of the England strip.
