Julia Fox has admitted that ‘turned a blind eye’ to the ‘early red flags’ in her relationship with Kanye West before bringing an end to their month-long romance.
The actress, 33, admitted that the opportunity to ‘relinquish her power’ in the relationship was ‘a welcome change’ during a difficult time in her personal life, but she soon realised it would be ‘unsustainable.’
Speaking on Radio 4’s Women’s Hour, Julia, who has penned a memoir about her troubled upbringing, also detailed her career as a dominatrix, after learning that she could use her body ‘as a tool’ to make money.
In the book, Julia refers to a relationship she had with someone called The Artist, and while she doesn’t directly name Kanye, details allude to her turbulent romance with the rapper.
Kanye and Julia first stepped out together after his split from ex-wife Kim Kardashian in 2021, and after weeks of stunning with their outfits, the pair ended things in February 2022.
Speaking out: Julia Fox has admitted that ‘turned a blind eye’ to the ‘early red flags’ in her relationship with Kanye West before bringing an end to their month-long romance
She told Emma Barnett: ‘I think at the time there were definitely some red flags that I chose to turn a blind eye to because it was fun, exciting, shiny and new, and also I was going through a lot in my personal life and it just felt like a welcome change.
‘Sometimes it’s nice to just relinquish power and not have to think about the little details, it’s definitely felt like a relief in the beginning, ”oh finally someone can take the reigns.”
‘But that became unsustainable so that’s why the relationship only lasted a month.’
In her book, Julia details her troubled upbringing in Italy and New York, before finding work as a dominatrix at the age of 18, after emailing a Manhattan dungeon that was hiring on Craigslist.
And during her radio appearance, she explained that after struggling to embrace her appearance, she took the job as a way to excel using her figure.
She said: ‘I think in life you’re dealt certain cards and one of them was that I ha d a nice figure and I had to play that card to win at life, and I used my body as a survival mechanism as a tool to make money, then being a dominatrix.’
‘Every time I speak about being a dominatrix and sex work I always talk about it in a positive light and I get such bashlash for it. and I don’t think people understand.
‘Being a dominatrix is so unique because the dungeon is the only place in the world where it’s very matriarchal and the women rule and the men are there to serve and be submissive.

Over: Kanye and Julia first stepped out together after his split from ex-wife Kim Kardashian in 2021, but split just weeks later in February 2022
‘I think seeing that at a very young age just opened up a whole new world to me, and I was just like ”this is the way it should be this works, we are graceful rulers, we are cool, kind and caring, and we don’t abuse our power I think as much as men do.
‘I think overall it was such a self-esteem booster I think prior to that I had, prior to that men would tell me I was pretty or hot or attractive but I just never believed them, but then I started working at the dungeon and I saw that I was getting more money then some other girls, and I was getting booked more.
‘That was a metric I could actually measure and then I believed it once it was fact and then I started to see my worth a little bit more and thought ”oh I am pretty” because I had never seen myself like that a little bit more.’
Kanye Julia confirmed their split after West shared a slew of Instagram posts declaring ‘I wish my wife were with me’ and pining for his family to be reunited.
Fox, who appeared with Adam Sandler in 2019’s Uncut Gems, previously described her romance with West as ‘organic’ and ‘natural,’ and off to a strong beginning.
‘Time will tell, you’ll just see,’ she said. ‘Obviously, it looks a certain way, but people don’t know the conversations happening behind the scenes, and you know, I’ve been around.’
Fox said it was ‘unfortunate’ that people have compared her to Kardashian, saying their only similarities have been fashionable ones.
