‘People don’t think I want to be married. I absolutely want to be married,’ he informed Rizzo, adding, ‘You know the secret, which is that I’m actually fairly well-adjusted.’

Mayer continued, ‘I just think that level of being relied on is the hottest thing in the world to me. “If my husband was here, he would know what to do. Call John. Call my husband.”‘

‘You’re a full grown-up when this is your romantic fantasy. You’re a fully fledged grown-up.’

Kelly – who is notably the widow of late actor Bob Saget – then cut in to jokingly say, ‘Your kink is that you want someone to be like, “John’s got a guy.”‘

‘Reliance kink? Oh my God. Reliability kink? Yes,’ the Edge Of Desire hitmaker expressed to the host.

Over the years, John has had a number of high profile romances with stars such as Jessica Simpson, Katy Perry and also Taylor Swift.

The performer previously discussed his love life and during an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast in December 2022, he admitted that his sobriety helped stopped his womanizing ways and that he was looking for ‘long-term’ love.

‘Dating is no longer a codified activity for me, it doesn’t exist in a kind of…it’s not patterned anymore,’ he expressed at the time.

‘I don’t really date – I don’t think that I have to, to be quite honest. I quit drinking like six years ago, so I don’t have the liquid courage. I just have dry courage.’

Mayer made the decision to get sober back in 2016 after battling a six-day hangover after celebrating Drake’s 30th birthday. ‘I remember being like, “What happens if I keep going? I always stop here. What if I keep going?”‘

While on the podcast, he also discussed his reputation of being a ‘womanizer’ and stated, ‘I think, look, the elephant in the room is that I’m on a show that caters to women, and I have a couple of nameplates on me, like “Lothario” and “womanizer,” and I think that is what that is.’

He later admitted that in the past, he had been ‘made to believe’ that when someone had showed interest in him was simply an ‘accident’ and that he needed to ‘capitalize’ on it.

‘And so I felt very deeply when somebody liked me. Very deeply,’ Mayer admitted to host, Alex Cooper.

Despite his romantic past, the singer expressed that he had always hoped his relationships would have been long term.

He claimed that, ‘Every relationship I’ve ever been in was devoted to the idea that this could go the distance.’

‘My entire life, today included, if you told me that I could have a great two months with someone but it would end on the first day of the third month, I would not be interested. I’ve always sought potential for a long-term relationship.’

Back in 2002, Mayer was notably linked to Ghost Whisperer actress, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and later dated Jessica Simpson from 2006 through 2007.
