Janelle Monae stepped out with a rather stylish look on Sunday, ahead of the highly-anticipated 2022 Met Gala.

The 36-year-old singer and fashion icon was spotted leaving the Mark Hotel in Manhattan on Sunday afternoon.

Her outing comes just one day before the Met Gala, and while it’s unclear if she’s actually attending, though she did also share photos and videos of her epic 2019 Met Gala look, a Pablo Picasso-inspired dress by Christian Siriano on her Instagram story.

Monae stepped out in a unique black-and-white patterned jumpsuit with the cuffs rolled up, with black sunglasses.

She also had a matching black-and-white Gucci purse slung over her shoulder with a long chain along with a black beret.

She completed her look with an elegant black-and-white full-length fuzzy coat and white boots.

She also took to her Instagram story to share her iconic look from the 2019 Met Gala, inspired by the theme ‘camp.’

The dress was an homage to Picasso, who she said was one of her ‘favorite artists’ in an interview with Vanity Fair.

‘Particularly, I wanted to highlight Picasso’s African Period in the early 1900s,’ the singer said in the interview.

The singer also made headlines last month by coming out as nonbinary during an episode of Jada Pinkett Smith’s Facebook Watch show Red Table Talk.

‘I’m nonbinary, so I just don’t see myself as a woman solely. I feel all of my energy,’ she said during the episode, which also featured her mother Janet.

‘I feel like God is so much bigger than the “he” or the “she.” And if I am from God, I am everything,’ she added.

‘I am everything. But I will always, always stand with women. I will always stand with Black women. But I just see everything that I am. Beyond the binary,’ she added.

Monae hasn’t released an album since 2018’s Dirty Computer, though she has been keeping busy as an actress and a writer.

She will next be seen in the highly-anticipated Knives Out 2, currently in post-production, and she just released her first book The Memory Librarian: And Other Stories From Dirty Computer in April.
