Jamie Carragher claims Gary Neville has CANCELLED his Monday Night Football appearance after Manchester United’s 7-0 battering by Liverpool – as ex-Reds defender agrees with fan that his fellow pundit has ‘bottled it’
- Manchester United were humiliated in a 7-0 mauling at the hands of Liverpool
- Gary Neville slumped in his seat as a co-commentator as the match unravelled
- Jamie Carragher has now claimed that Neville will be a no-show on Monday night
It appears Gary Neville is still yet to come to terms with Manchester United’s 7-0 hammering at the hands of Liverpool as he’s ‘cried off’ appearing on Monday Night Football, according to Jamie Carragher.
MNF has become a hit show on Sky for Neville and Carragher where they break down key moments over the weekend before the late Monday night kick-off.
But Neville looks to still be wounded from the drubbing his former side took and is set to be absent from the broadcaster’s coverage for Brentford against Fulham.
‘Gary Neville has cried off from MNF,’ Carragher tweeted, accompanied by three laughing face emojis.
One fan thought Carragher may be pulling a fast one but when asked if Neville had really ‘bottled it’ the ex-Liverpool defender replied with the 100 emoji.
Both Neville and Carragher found themselves on co-commentary, alongside Martin Tyler, at Anfield as Manchester United were ripped apart.
Liverpool were 1-0 up at the half-time break through Cody Gakpo and Neville remained upbeat that United had looked stronger for much of the first 45 minutes.
But Erik ten Hag’s side completely fell apart in the second 45 and Neville cut an exapserated figure on Sky’s dedicated commentators’ camera as he slumped in his chair next to a gleeful Carragher.
Ahead of more analysis on the United debacle it now seems Neville has thought best to stay out of the MNF studio.
Neville engaged in a heated studio debate with Graeme Souness on Sunday, accusing the ex-Liverpool star of talking ‘nonsense’.
It was a disastrous day for United and along with Neville, Roy Keane was fuming that the ‘circus is back in town’ as he called for some players to go into ‘hiding’.
Neville was livid with United’s display and while he will be accused of ‘bottling’ Monday Night Football should he give it a miss, he didn’t hold back on Sunday in his criticism of United’s stars.
‘I’m going to start with Bruno Fernandes,’ a fuming Neville said on Sky Sports.
‘I’ve had enough of him throwing his arms around at his team-mates; I’ve had enough of him not running back; he whinges at everybody.’
He added: ‘He got pushed in the chest and went down holding his face. He’s got to put a captain’s performance in out there and that wasn’t a captain’s performance by a Manchester United player.’
The Portuguese midfielder was also labelled an embarrassment.
‘Some of Fernandes’ behaviour in this half has been a disgrace,’ Neville said after the first 45 minutes. By the end he was even more appalled before trying to shift the focus onto how United rise from this.
‘I think Erik ten Hag will deal with them very strongly in the next 24-48 hours, he’s done that a few times already this season,’ Neville added.
‘I’d hope normal service will be resumed by the end of next week.’
