The Voice Australia aired its most controversial performance to date on Monday night. 

Self-described ‘flamboyant’ performer Saba Saliba delivered his original song, Disco Jesus, garnering both praise and scorn. 

The brazen track includes the lyrics, ‘If you want to party, I’ll turn water into wine. If your body needs some healing, that’s a specialty of mine.’

It continues: ‘There’s a diamond church above me if you’re looking for a sign. I, I’m Disco Jesus’. 

Scores of viewers posted to social media to air their opinions on the song, with some calling it ‘iconic’ while others slammed it as ‘disgusting’.

‘The most disgusting and the most disgraceful act I’ve ever seen!’ wrote one person on Instagram and another agreed, ‘Disgusting performance to be honest’. 

‘Nope didn’t like that song nor the performance, surprised this performer got this far’ someone else said. 

One more chimed in: ‘I can’t believe the voice aired this… seriously if this was about any other religion it would be cancelled’. 

‘How dare he mock Jesus, disgusted’ said one angry person, but others were entertained.

‘Hahaha loved it, good on him for being himself and having fun! Seems like a song Lady Gaga would sing’ wrote one fan. 

‘I can already sense the comments incoming… good for them for going out and giving it their all. Icon!’ said another. 

‘I loved it!!!’ someone wrote, with one more saying, ‘What an icon!!!’

Yet another person chimed in, ‘This is already stuck in my head. What a banger’.

Saba describes himself on his website as, ‘Sydney’s most exciting, flamboyant recording-performing artist who writes and performs catchy pop rock electronic dance music songs.’

The blurb continues: ‘Born in Sydney Australia from Lebanese parents, androgynous and enigmatic, Saba started writing and singing catchy pop songs since childhood.’

He has released the independent album Missing Time and Feeling Feminine, described as ‘camp, quirky, eurocentric, high energy, synth-pop’. 

Unfortunately the performer did not advance from the Blinds round on The Voice Australia after failing to secure a mentor.
