Jade Ross, 35, was allegedly stabbed in the head and upper body on Montague Road near Ingle Farm Shopping Centre, in Adelaide, at 10.30pm on Thursday

Paramedics rushed her to Royal Adelaide Hospital where she remains in the intensive care unit.

A 51-year-old man was seen by passersby fleeing the scene before he was arrested by police on Friday.

He was charged with attempted murder and has been refused bail.

He will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.

Resident Michael Crawford described the scene of chaos as passersby rushed to save the mother.

‘There was heaps of people involved,’ he told Nine News. ‘In the carpark, everyone was running everywhere. We called the police.’

Friend Bonnie Ropper said she had invited Ms Ross to her home hours before the attack and only learned of the alleged stabbing the following day.

‘She could’ve just stayed here and then she wouldn’t be where she is right now,’ she told Seven News.

‘She’s in the intensive care unit. She’s been sedated so they can’t talk to her, she’s messed up.’
