I’m A Celebrity contestants ‘secretly shown how to do the trials BEFORE they are aired on TV’

I’m A Celebrity contestants are shown how to do the trials before they are aired on TV.

According to reports, the campmates are secretly ‘told what they need to do’ and even ‘allowed to try it’ in a bid to remove some element of ‘jeopardy’ on the ITV show.

It has also been claimed that the contestants were shown how to unlock the chains before the gruelling Bar-baric trial earlier this week, where the female celebrities had to unlock their padlocks while being doused in fish guts.

A source told The Sun: ‘The average viewer would assume that a celebrity walks from camp and goes straight into the trial without any heads up.

‘In reality, they are told what they need to do, and in many cases shown how to do it and allowed to try and do it.

‘It does remove some element of jeopardy, the idea that they know exactly how to escape, or unpick a lock, or release a bolt, before the cameras even start rolling.’

An ‘ITV insider’ added to the publication that if celebrities were to get stuck on ‘intricacies such as locks and keys’ it would make viewers ‘switch off’ I’m A Celebrity.

They also claimed that the celebrities are shown what to do in order to ‘wriggle out’ of some sections of the challenges, adding that fans want to see the campmates ‘succeed’ rather than ‘fail’.

While former contestant Kim Woodburn, who took part in the Australian set 2009 series of the show told the newspaper: ‘It’s an absolute farce. It’s a cheat. I am truly appalled.’

So far this series the celebrities have earned a total of 73 out of a possible 88 stars up for grabs.

An I’m A Celebrity spokesman told Mailonline: ‘Contestants are told the instructions of a Trial and producers ensure that they understand what is required of them in line with our health and safety procedures.

This year’s I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! campmates have been faced with gruelling conditions at Gwrych Castle in freezing North Wales this year.

But past winners Vicky Pattison and Scarlett Moffatt have claimed this year’s series is much ‘easier’ and are outraged that the campmates are given ‘hot’ showers.

I’m A Celebrity has relocated to icy cold Wales from its normal balmy location of Australia for its first ever UK series amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

However Geordie Shore star Vicky, 33, who won the series in 2015, said that a lot of former campmates will think ‘what the f**k’ after watching this year’s ‘easy’ show.

She told The Sun: ‘I do think there’s going to be a lot of past campmates sitting round and watching this year’s I’m A Celeb and going, “What the f***? They have it so easy compared to us”.’

Meanwhile the 2016 series winner Scarlett, 30, said she ‘got so angry’ after seeing the campmates having ‘hot water’ for their showers.

The ex-Gogglebox star explained: ‘I know they’re in Wales so it is cold, but they should have ice cold water, that’s part of the experience. Why have they got hot water?’

She went on to claim that the trials are easier this year and said it would have been ‘the dream’ to deal with rotten tomatoes like in Russell Watson and Ruthie Henshall’s first task.

Last week viewers couldn’t resist poking fun at this year’s crop of stars when they fawned over a prize of bread and butter, saying they were ‘acting like they’ve been starved for months’.

AJ Pritchard and Jessica Plummer emerged victorious in the Castle Coin Challenge during Wednesday night’s episode and won fresh bread and butter from Kiosk Cledwyn.

When they returned to camp, the celebrities cheered and gathered around the bread to take turns sniffing it, with Beverley Callard proclaiming: ‘That was the best bread I’ve ever tasted.’

However, viewers quickly took to social media and said the celebrities were ‘losing their heads’ over bread, despite having only been away from the real world for a few days.

One fan wrote: ‘They’ve only been in there four days and they’re acting like they’ve forgotten what bread tastes like.’

The camp won the lowest amount of meals so far on Monday after AJ Pritchard and Jessica Plummer only managed to nab six stars during their trial.

And after the disappointing result Shane Richie, 56, confidently declared that the actress, 28, would be up for the next challenge too after being ‘so scared’.

However fans of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! were not impressed with the actor’s ‘b******g’ and voted for Shane to take on the Cruel Jewels trial himself.

After the duo returned from the challenge, the EastEnders star chatted with Vernon Kay about how Jessica will end up doing more trials because of her performance.

Discussing how she was ‘petrified’, Shane suggested that this would keep her in the Trial danger zone as it was entertaining to watch for viewers at home.

Not holding back on how he felt, he also added: ‘I say this every year I watch it. Why would you come and do it? You know what’s going to happen.’

Shane and Vernon caught up about the day while getting into their hammocks, with the actor saying: ‘Yeah tomorrow night, 100 per cent Jess.’

Vernon then revealed that he was told by AJ that Jessica was ‘petrified’ during the challenge. Shane replied: ‘Basically it’s Jessica and Jordan, cut from the same cloth aren’t they.’

Vernon agreed, adding: ‘The more you show, the more they’re going to give it to you.’

During AJ and Jessica’s challenge, hosts Ant and Dec explained that the trial was a series of rooms and tunnels with 12 stars hidden inside – but everything would be in pitch black.

The two contestants were told to enter separately and only given one bag for collecting the stars, having to find each other inside.

The professional dancer said he’d look after the star bag so it was Jessica’s responsibility to find the stars and hand them to AJ.

Only finding six, they finished the trial downtrodden. Jessica said: ‘I feel really gutted and disappointed.’ And AJ added: ‘It was so frustrating.’

I’m A Celebrity continues nightly at 9PM on ITV.
