Roy Keane has slammed Manchester United’s senior players following their 7-0 capitulation to Liverpool at Anfield, claiming he was ‘thankful’ that he had never been a part of a team that had been beaten that badly.’
The Red Devils suffered their largest defeat since Boxing Day 1931 where they were beaten 7-0 by Wolverhampton Wanderers, with Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino all scoring during the match.
After the game, Roy Keane was on punditry to give his take on the performance and the former Manchester United midfielder didn’t hold back on Erik ten Hag’s side’s performance, taking aim at their leaders in particular.
‘United have to take their medicine,’ he told Sky Sports. ‘[Bruno] Fernandes’ body language today was disgraceful. You wouldn’t be happy with him in the dressing room after the game.
‘I see one or two players today coming out at half time. They’re having a laugh and a joke at 1-0 down. I don’t like that. That circus can creep back into the club.

‘You’re here to work it’s a serious business. None of this laughing and joking. West Ham let them off the hook the other night. I wonder if [David] de Gea will get a presentation tonight, letting seven goals in.
‘If you’re an international goalkeeper and you let in seven goals, that last goal was school boy stuff.’
Earlier in the week, Keane had spoken out on how the club had handed out several trophies to players, including David de Gea, prior to their game against West Ham, and criticised the mentality of the players after a lacklustre first half in that match.
Yet, the Irishman’s analysis of today’s game was much more scathing, with Keane admitting that he was glad he’d never been involved in such a bad defeat.

‘Shocking game really. United’s senior players were embarrassing, didn’t show any leadership.
‘Tough day for United. Thank god I’ve never been part of a team that got beat that bad. When the going went tough they went missing.
‘Liverpool were brilliant. They were still trying to get more goals at the end of the game. They were back to their very, very best,’ he said, lauding the home side for their excellent win.
‘I never thought United were back to their very best, they have been giving teams chances in the last few weeks and teams have let them off the hook.

‘Liverpool didn’t let them off the hook today. They were clinical, they were ruthless. The big players let the club down today.
‘If you got beaten by 7-0, I think id go missing for a few months. It really is that embarrassing. But they have to bounce back. They’ve got a big European game in the week. Liverpool looked sharper mentally. I’m in shock.’
While Darwin Nunez grabbed a brace of headers during the match and his 7th and 8th PL goals
Keane also took time to praise Salah for his powerful first strike that bounced in off the the underside of the crossbar.
Salah then overtook Robbie Fowler’s record to become Liverpool’s all-time leading goal scorer, with his second goal not long after.
‘This is from United’s corner,’ he said speaking on what a finish on his weaker side. ‘You can forgive players having a bad day but this was something else. When you’re passing people like Robbie Fowler you’ve got to be some player.’
