A woman has died after an alleged stabbing inside a busy Perth hotel, with a man known to her arrested shortly after the tragedy.

The woman was allegedly stabbed by a man she knew on the sixth floor of the Quality Hotel Ambassador Perth just after 9:30am on Sunday morning.

‘Police were called to the hotel as a result of a disturbance and a female adult was located on one of the upper floors.

‘She was unresponsive and appeared to have suffered a traumatic event.’

The woman was provided first aid by St John Ambulance officers and taken to Royal Perth Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

A man has been arrested over his alleged involvement in the stabbing.

‘An adult male we suspect was involved in that traumatic incident was taken into custody at the scene,’ Senior Sergeant Fogell told the ABC.

‘It [happened] on one of the upper floors inside one of the rooms and then migrated into the corridor outside that room, and yes there were witnesses.

‘The circumstances of her injuries indicate that a weapon was involved, however it is too early in the investigation to confirm what weapon and how she’s sustained her injuries.’

Local Jeremy Grazziadelli told 9News he heard a ‘wail of sirens’ after the alleged incident.

Police investigations continue, and they are urging the public to contact Crime Stoppers with any information about the incident.

‘My information at this point is that the male person was a guest at this hotel, but there’s no information on the female,’ Senior Sergeant Fogell said.
