Home and Away star Lynne McGranger announces shock new role after teasing ‘dramatic’ exit from the show
She has played Irene Roberts on iconic soap Home and Away for over 30 years.
But Lynne McGranger has now announced an important new role she has taken on alongside Cancer Council.
The actress, 70, has joined a campaign encouraging people to take bowel cancer screening tests.
‘The participation rates on the bowel cancer screening tests are very low, around 40 per cent, which is pretty terrible,’ Lynne told 7Life.
‘But honestly, the test takes two minutes… do it, it’s simple to do, it’s hygienic and it may save your life.’

She said she felt ‘blessed’ that her first screening last year came back all-clear.
Lynne also admitted she didn’t take her health seriously until her father passed away in 2005.
‘I gave up smoking, and that was a big one for me, a really big one. At that point, I started to get fitter, healthier, and now I exercise three to four days a week,’ she said.
It comes after veteran star Lynne recently revealed how she is planning on leaving Home and Away.
The actress has detailed how she would like to exit the soap – and she hopes to do it with a bang.

While she’s stolen the hearts of the nation with her portrayal of the motherly figure, Lynne wants her exit from the show to be dramatic.
‘I want to go with the biggest bang, the most dramatic exit,’ she told Stuff.co.nz in March.
‘I want to get lost at sea, or I want to die a really sad, lengthy death with everyone weeping and wailing around me.
‘Or Irene could get lost at sea and they never find the body, have the memorial service and everything and then she walks back into town.’
