Holly Willoughby awkwardly laughs as Alice Beer makes a sly jibe about her age

Holly Willoughby awkwardly laughed on This Morning on Thursday, after Alice Beer made a sly quip about her age.

The 41-year-old presenter was chatting to the consumer reporter about plant-based milks.

As Alice, 57, gave her and Phillip Schofield different milks to try, she said: ‘Phil you’re probably the same generation as me that had the little bottles of milk at school.’

But Holly chimed in to say she had the milk bottles at school as well.

Alice replied: ‘Did you have the little bottles, Oh, well you’re older than I thought.’

Holly broke into laughter and said ‘Oh no’, while Alice softened the blow by adding: ‘Love you.’

Holly’s reaction was a lot better than the one she made on Tuesday, after Phillip unwittingly spoke over her.

She was left unimpressed when Phil, 60, butted in on the show during a serious chat on the 20th anniversary of the Bali bombings.

Polly Brooks MBE was talking to both hosts when the awkward moment occured.

Holly said to survivor Polly: ‘Wow, gosh, and even at…’ before Phillip cut in.

Holly then fell silent and was seen pulling the face as she became frustrated.

A body language expert has claimed Holly felt ‘suppressed annoyance or irritation’ by Phil’s actions.

Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Judi James said: ‘Holly’s body language response when Philip talked over her during an interview was one that is familiar to anyone who has been interrupted by their partner at a social event or by a colleague during a business meeting.

‘The official response is to smile and move on but it looked like one interruption too many for Holly, whose facial expression suggested suppressed annoyance or irritation.

Judi continued: ‘She would never have been rude enough or unprofessional enough to roll her eyes upward but they did drop downward as Philip got in there with his own question just as she was asking her own.

It was an emotional interview and Holly had done the right thing in terms of working in a TV double act, which is to perform an intentional or announcement gesture before you speak to help avoid any cross-talk.

She had part-raised one hand but it looks like Philip was also eager to get in with his question, and after the pensive drop of her eyes, Holly also performed a pursing of the lips to hint at a level of displeasure.

One viewer shared the clip to TikTok and captioned it: ‘Holly’s eye roll when Phil cuts her off.’

One fan wrote in the comment section: ‘Holly don’t look impressed’ while another said: ‘Ha that look says it all.’

One fan jumped to Phillip’s defense by writing: ‘He was probably told to say his lines in his ear piece as they normally are.’

MailOnline has contacted Holly Willoughby’s representatives for comment.

They appear to be moving on from the recent ‘queuegate’ controversy, which saw Holly and Phil accused of skipping the queue to see the Queen lying in state.

Holly and Phil have been the subject of online abuse in the wake of the claims and a petition to have the duo fired from their lucrative presenting roles has hit more than 75,000 signatures in just over a week.

Ofcom have reportedly received a string of complaints about queuegate as fuming viewers contacted the regular to demand the pair apologise.

According to The Mirror, Ofcom received 55 complaints this week while 209 complaints were made the previous week.

The week-long fallout over the incident – which has spawned hundreds of jokes online at their expense – has sparked rival briefing wars, with the presenters’ relationship now said to be under strain.

Holly is also believed to be unhappy that ITV did not step in sooner to back her, and there has been speculation – since denied – that she may leave the show.

After being seen on the official camera feed inside the venue, the pair said they were there to make a segment for This Morning’s show which would air four days later.

No TV crews other than the official feed were allowed inside.
