Fans were left tearful after spotting a hidden detail in a photo Bindi Irwin posted on Instagram on Saturday.

The 24-year-old conservationist posed for a selfie with her mother Terri, 58, to celebrate her ‘half birthday’, which is a tradition observed by the Irwin family.

Eagle-eyed followers noticed Bindi was wearing a pendant necklace with a picture of her late father Steve Irwin inside it.

‘In our family we celebrate half birthdays and call them “unbirthdays”,’ Bindi wrote in the caption.

‘It’s such a lovely reminder that every day is a gift. Happy Unbirthday to my beautiful mama.

‘Mum, you light up the world with your kind heart. I love you, forever.’

Bindi’s necklace was prominently displayed around her neck. The photo of Steve showed him smiling in Australia Zoo’s signature khaki uniform.

‘I’m bawling seeing that,’ one person commented below the photo, while another added: ‘What a beautiful necklace.’

A third wrote: ‘I noticed the necklace also! How wonderful to have that reminder of your dad and his life!’
