Bombshell twist in boxer Harry Garside’s AVO battle against his ex-girlfriend – as star claims he has video showing HER being the aggressor

  • Lawyers claim footage shows ex was aggressor
  • Boxer was charged with domestic violence on May 3
  • Case mentioned in court on Wednesday

Lawyers representing Olympic boxer Harry Garside have said there is video footage which shows his ex as the aggressor as he faces court charged with assaulting her.

The 25-year-old was arrested at Sydney Airport earlier this month as he flew home from South Africa following filming of I’m a Celebrity….Get Me Out Of Here!

NSW Police arrested the boxer, who won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, as he made his way to baggage claim and charged him with a domestic violence charge of common assault against his former partner.

Garside fronted Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday alongside high-profile defamation barrister Sue Chrysanthou and solicitor Rebekah Giles.

He sat in the front row of the public gallery next to Ms Giles as his matter was mentioned.

Ms Chrysanthou told the court she had made ‘substantial representations’ to police in relation to additional material which police didn’t have access to.

‘In particular a video of the incident in question which we say shows the complainant as the aggressor,’ Ms Chrysanthou said.

‘Other material where she has made threats about going to police to make fake complaints.’

The matter was adjourned for two weeks, when the brief of evidence is expected to be served.

Neither Garside or his lawyers answered questions to media outside court.

The court mention comes just a day after Garside’s mother went into surgery for cancer.

‘All the best today mum, hopefully the last surgery then the rebuild,’ he wrote in an Instagram story on Tuesday.

The charge comes after an investigation into an alleged domestic violence-related incident at Bellevue Hill on March 1.

Garside was granted conditional bail and the matter will return to court on June 7.

The boxer had snapped a picture with his father before their flight out of South Africa, and uploaded it to Instagram.

‘Had to upgrade my best mate to business with me. His first time flying business,’ he wrote on the post.

The pair had been overseas for several weeks while Garside filmed for the Channel 10 reality show which was won by former netballer Liz Ellis.

Garside has won seven Australian national boxing championships.
